Here is everything you need to know about yoghurt, and its health benefits, in a nutshell:<\/p>\n<p><b>Why is yoghurt good for your gut?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Yoghurt production involves the fermentation of milk using beneficial bacteria, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Lactobacillus bulgaricus<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Streptococcus thermophilus<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, which are referred to as live cultures.\u00a0 Also known as \u201cfriendly bacteria\u201d these micro-organisms are the mainstay of your gut health, underpinning immune function and affecting your mood. The probiotic effect of yoghurt also aids digestion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><b>Can I eat yoghurt if I\u2019m lactose intolerant?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Surprisingly, you can! This is because during the yoghurt-making process, the lactose in milk is broken down into lactic acid during fermentation.
