South Africa\u2019s beloved community movement 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day\u00a0will celebrate World Creativity and Innovation Day\u00a0with joyful public gatherings on 18 April 2026, bringing knitters, crocheters, families and supporters together.<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The events form part of the movement\u2019s ongoing mission to transform simple acts of creativity into warmth and dignity for those in need across the country.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In Johannesburg, supporters will gather at the beautiful City Centre at Steyn City for a vibrant family day out, where visitors will experience colourful blanket displays, ingenuity<\/span>, <\/span>creative activities<\/span>, <\/span>generosity\u00a0and the unmistakable spirit that has come to define the 67 Blankets community.\u00a0 Other events will take place across the country in Cape Town, Durban, White River and Gqeberha.<\/span><\/p>\n

67 Blankets invites the public to bring their yarn, knitting needles or crochet hooks and join hundreds of fellow volunteers in making blankets that will ultimately provide warmth to vulnerable South Africans.<\/span><\/p>\n

Visitors can expect a welcoming atmosphere filled with colour<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and community spirit.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The events also mark an exciting new chapter for the organisation, with\u00a0Annie Robinson Grealy\u00a0stepping in to head up operations\u00a0for 67 Blankets. Founder\u00a0Carolyn Steyn\u00a0will remain closely involved at executive level, continuing to guide the vision and growth of the movement she established in 2013.<\/span><\/p>\n

Since its founding, 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day has inspired thousands of volunteers across the country to knit and crochet blankets that are distributed to communities in need.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What began as a small initiative has grown into a nationwide movement that has delivered warmth to hospitals, shelters, schools and vulnerable communities, while building powerful connections between people from all walks of life.<\/span><\/p>\n

Families, experienced crafters, beginners\u00a0and supporters are all welcome to attend, share stories, learn new skills and help turn colourful yarn into acts of kindness.<\/span><\/p>\n
