A Hot date this June!

01 We all really need to get into the habit of recycling. So why not make a date to involve your school and start a recycling programme? Keep it simple. Appoint a green ambassador (either a teacher or a learner) who will be in charge, spread the word and start collecting paper, cardboard boxes, newspapers, toilet roll cores, cartons, plastic PET bottles and glass beverage bottles. Not only will you be doing your bit to help the environment but your school also stands a chance to win a share of R110 000 in prizes in the Mpact Recycling and Ronnie Recycler school competition. Come and test your music knowledge at the Music Mania Quiz Night on June 3, from 6pm, at the Butterfly Hall at Rietvlei Zoo Farm. Tickets cost R180 per person which includes dinner and the music quiz. A cash bar will be available. No children under of 18.

Laerskool Orion Market will be hosted at the school in 6 Toinette Street in Brackenhurst. The market will take place from 8am to 3.30pm. Organiser, Riana Nel, says the market was initially started as a ‘joke’ between the business owner of Haiya’s Corner and the school’s principal Karel Steenkamp. The Horwood’s Family Market held at Horwood’s Farm park in 1 Homestead Road in Edenvale will take place on June 5 from 9.30am to 4pm. The market runs every first weekend (Saturday and Sunday) of the month. They cater for the whole family including your furbabies. Pets are welcome, but they must be on a leash at all times. Come and enjoy craft stalls, live entertainment and a kiddies play area. There is a variety of food stands and trailers and a beer garden with full bar items and cocktails. Allow yourself a morning just for you and a couple of your friends to catch up and unwind from the stress and turmoil of your daily life. Join in the She’s Dignity morning filled with fun where you will get to do your own line-art work of art with watercolours, on June 11. The event will take place at Lupa in Meyersdal, from 10.30am to 2pm. Cost is R350 per person and includes food, canvas, paint, a glass of gin and dessert. Prizes to be won and lots of fun to be had.
