Scented candles

Scent your home with one of these luxurious candles

Candle burning guide
We chatted to the Heritage team (who make some of our favourite scented candles) and they share some guidelines to ensure that your candles burn perfectly every time.

Trim the wick:
To ensure an even and smoke-free burn, the wick should be trimmed to 5mm before each burn. The best time is when the candle wax is completely cool. A long wick can cause the flame to flicker too high, resulting in the blackening of the glass.
Create a melt pool:
To get the most out of your candles and maximise scent throw, it is ideal for the entire surface of the candle to liquefy. When lighting, it’s important that you have enough time for the wax pool to touch the inside of the glass. This should take three to four hours on a large candle and could take slightly longer on smaller, classic candles. Wax has a ‘memory’ and if you extinguish it too soon, this may result in tunneling.
The 4-hour rule:
Allow your candle to rest for two hours before relighting. This will help preserve the fragrance of your candle and prevent unsightly debris and soot from dirtying the wax. As with the initial burn, one should never exceed a four-hour burning time in any subsequent burns.
Never blow out your candle:
Blowing out your candle generates a lot of smoke and debris, mixing with the liquid wax. When the wax is melted, it’s best to gently turn the wick into the liquid wax to extinguish it, so no smoke is created. After extinguishing, always re-centre the wick to burn the candle the next time evenly.

General Candle Care:
• Never burn candles in a draft – this will cause an uneven burn
• Always protect the table or surface on which the candle rests
• Store your candle in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight
• Keep away from children, curtains, pets and anything flammable
• Never leave a burning candle unattended.
