Types of meat could range from steaks, sausages, lamb chops to chicken and sosaties.<\/p>\n<p>For the traditional side dish, garlic bread is always a winner, but meilies, pap or roosterkoek will also be suffice. As for dessert, don\u2019t forget the koeksisters or malva pudding to satisfy your sweet tooth.<\/p>\n<p>Below are some South African beer inspired recipes for you to try this Heritage Day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Beer marinated boerewors<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>600g thick boerewors<\/li>\n<li>Organic olive oil (for drizzling)<\/li>\n<li>6 garlic cloves (finely chopped)<\/li>\n<li>\u00bd large onion (diced)<\/li>\n<li>Pinch of salt<\/li>\n<li>2 tablespoons treacle sugar<\/li>\n<li>2 tablespoons white wine vinegar<\/li>\n<li>1 cup of Castle Lager<\/li>\n<li>2 tablespoons tomato paste<\/li>\n<li>2 tablespoons curry powder<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Method:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Fry curry powder in a dry pan for one minute, add tomato paste and stir. Deglaze the pan by adding the Castle Lager and white wine vinegar.<\/li>\n<li>Bring to the boil, then add treacle sugar, salt, diced onion and chopped garlic. Boil for about two minutes. Remove from the heat and add olive oil.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Let the marinade cool slightly.<\/li>\n<li>Place a pack of thick boerewors into a sealable plastic bag or container. Cover with the beer marinade and refrigerate for one hour.<\/li>\n<li>Braai boerewors over hot coals or on the gas if you&#8217;re in a hurry. Alternatively, cook in the marinade in a 200\u00b0 preheated oven.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Garlic, cheddar, bacon and beer bread<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>3 cups self-rising flour<\/li>\n<li>\u00bd cup sugar<\/li>\n<li>340ml Castle Lager<\/li>\n<li>1 cup grated cheddar cheese<\/li>\n<li>\u00bd cup bacon (chopped)<\/li>\n<li>1 tablespoon garlic powder<\/li>\n<li>1 teaspoon parsley<\/li>\n<li>\u00bc cup butter melted<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Method:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Preheat the oven to 190\u00b0C.<\/li>\n<li>In a large bowl, gently stir together the flour, sugar and beer until it is combined.<\/li>\n<li>Then, gently stir in the cheese, bacon, garlic powder and parsley.<\/li>\n<li>Pour the resulting batter into a greased loaf tin.<\/li>\n<li>Pour the melted butter on top of the batter.<\/li>\n<li>Cook for 50 minutes to one hour, or until a skewer inserted into bread comes out clean.<\/li>\n<li>Let the bread cool for at least five minutes before serving.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With 124 years of South African heritage, SAB has played an integral role in the social fabric of the country \u2013 and there\u2019s not much more social than a braai on Heritage Day. \u201cNothing beats celebrating Heritage Day like a true South African with boerewors on the braai, a lekker beer bread on the side [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":44,"featured_media":2315,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[573],"tags":[],"class_list":{"0":"post-2312","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-food"},"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 -
