Then why not try these hearty stew recipes with Rhodes Quality.<\/p>\n<p>The aromas of all the delicious ingredients will fill the air, announcing to the family that you\u2019re cooking up a real treat.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Rhodes Quality Chakalaka Beef Stew<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>This slow-cooked stew is a one-pot winner for those chilly winter nights.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients (serves 4)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1 x 115 g Rhodes Quality Tomato Paste Cup<br \/>\n1 x 410 g can Rhodes Quality Chopped &amp; Peeled Tomatoes<br \/>\n1 x 410 g can Rhodes Quality Chakalaka Mild &amp; Spicy 1 kg Stewing beef<br \/>\n65 ml (\u00bc cup) Cake flour<br \/>\n60 ml (4 Tbsp.) Sunflower oil<br \/>\n1 Onion, chopped<br \/>\n200 g Rindless bacon, chopped<br \/>\n2 Garlic cloves, finely chopped<br \/>\n375 ml (1\u00bd cup) Beef stock, hot<br \/>\nSalt and ground black pepper<\/p>\n<p><strong>Method<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cut the beef into evenly sized pieces and toss in the flour, shaking off the excess.<br \/>\nIn a large saucepan, lightly brown the meat in 30 ml (2 Tbsp.) oil.<br \/>\nRemove from the pan and set aside. Wipe the pan clean, heat remaining oil and add the onion and bacon.<br \/>\nFry for a few minutes until softened. Add the garlic and fry for a few more minutes.<br \/>\nReturn the meat to the saucepan.<br \/>\nAdd the beef stock.<br \/>\nAdd the Rhodes Quality Tomato Paste Cup, Rhodes Quality Chopped &amp; Peeled Tomatoes and the Rhodes Quality Chakalaka Mild &amp; Spicy.<br \/>\nCover with a lid or tinfoil and simmer for 1\u00bd hours or until the meat is tender.<br \/>\nSeason to taste, then serve with rice or mashed potatoes.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Stewed Boerewors Pie<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Looking for something a little different to try with boerewors? This recipe can be served as a stew over rice or cooked up and baked into a pie. The choice is yours.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients (serves 6)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>30 ml (2 T) Rhodes Quality Tomato Paste<\/li>\n<li>1 x 410 g can Rhodes Quality Tomato &amp; Onion Gravy<\/li>\n<li>5 ml (1 T) sunflower oil<\/li>\n<li>1 onion, chopped<\/li>\n<li>1 clove garlic, crushed<\/li>\n<li>750 g boerewors<\/li>\n<li>30 ml (2 T) cake flour<\/li>\n<li>150 g button mushrooms<\/li>\n<li>125 ml (\u00bd C) flat-leaf parsley, chopped<\/li>\n<li>Salt and freshly cracked black pepper<\/li>\n<li>250g ready-made puff pastry, defrosted<\/li>\n<li>1 egg, beaten<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Method<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Heat the oil in a large saucepan.<br \/>\nAdd the onion and fry until softened.<br \/>\nAdd the garlic and fry for 2 minutes more.<br \/>\nRemove from the pan and set aside.<br \/>\nChop the boerewors into evenly sized pieces, about 2 cm thick.<br \/>\nAdd the boerewors to the same pan and brown the pieces lightly.<br \/>\nDrain any excess fat and return the onions and garlic to the pan.<br \/>\nAdd the cake flour and stir to mix.<br \/>\nStir in the Rhodes Quality Tomato Paste and the Rhodes Quality Tomato &amp; Onion Gravy and bring the sauce to the boil.<br \/>\nReduce the heat.<br \/>\nAdd the button mushrooms and parsley.<br \/>\nSeason to taste and simmer for 15 minutes more or until the mushrooms are cooked and the sauce is thick.<br \/>\nSet aside to cool.<br \/>\nOnce the mixture is cool prepare the pie dishes.<br \/>\nVery lightly roll out the pastry to just a little bit larger than the pie dish.<br \/>\nPlace the cooled pie filling into the pie dish.<br \/>\nBrush the edge of the dish with water and place the pastry over the top, sticking the edges to the pie dish.<br \/>\nMake a hole in the middle of the &#8220;lid&#8221; with the tip of the knife to let steam escape as the pie bakes.<br \/>\nBrush the pastry with the beaten egg.<br \/>\nBake in a preheated oven at 190\u02daC for 30 &#8211; 35 minutes until the pastry is crisp, puffed up and deep golden brown.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-5086\" src=\"https:\/\/getitmagazine.co.za\/joburg-south\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2020\/07\/Rhodes-Quality-Stewed-Boerewors-Pie-Medium-400x390.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"390\" srcset=\"https:\/\/getitmagazine.co.za\/joburg-south\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2020\/07\/Rhodes-Quality-Stewed-Boerewors-Pie-Medium-400x390.jpg 400w, https:\/\/getitmagazine.co.za\/joburg-south\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2020\/07\/Rhodes-Quality-Stewed-Boerewors-Pie-Medium-768x749.jpg 768w, https:\/\/getitmagazine.co.za\/joburg-south\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2020\/07\/Rhodes-Quality-Stewed-Boerewors-Pie-Medium-696x678.jpg 696w, https:\/\/getitmagazine.co.za\/joburg-south\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2020\/07\/Rhodes-Quality-Stewed-Boerewors-Pie-Medium-431x420.jpg 431w, https:\/\/getitmagazine.co.za\/joburg-south\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2020\/07\/Rhodes-Quality-Stewed-Boerewors-Pie-Medium.jpg 788w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<h5><strong>Rhodes Quality Green Bean &amp; Tomato Bredie<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Add some variety to this traditional South African dish by including Rhodes Quality Cross Cut Green Beans. And, by bulking this stew up with more veg, you get more meal for your money.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients (Serves 4-6)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2 x 410 g cans Rhodes Quality Whole Peeled Tomatoes<\/li>\n<li>1 x 410 g can Rhodes Quality Cross Cut Green Beans, drained<\/li>\n<li>1.2 kg sliced lamb knuckles or stewing lamb<\/li>\n<li>125 ml (\u00bd C) seasoned flour<\/li>\n<li>Sunflower oil for frying<\/li>\n<li>1 chopped onion<\/li>\n<li>1 chopped red pepper<\/li>\n<li>15 ml chopped garlic<\/li>\n<li>15 ml chopped fresh rosemary (or 5 ml dried)<\/li>\n<li>250 ml (1 C) prepared chicken stock<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Method<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sprinkle the meat with the flour and brown in batches in the oil. Set aside.<br \/>\nIn the same saucepan, fry the onion and red pepper until soft.<br \/>\nStir in the garlic and rosemary and fry until aromatic, about a minute.<br \/>\nAdd the Rhodes Quality Whole Peeled Tomatoes, stock, bay leaves and seasoning to taste then bring to a boil.<br \/>\nReduce heat, cover and simmer for about 2 hours or until the meat is tender and the sauce has reduced and thickened to your liking.<br \/>\nAdd the Rhodes Quality Green Beans and serve.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Chick Pea, Tomato and Spinach Stew<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>This is easy to prepare using a few pantry essentials.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients (<\/strong><strong>Serves 4-6)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 x 410g can Rhodes Quality Tomato and Onion mix<\/li>\n<li>1 x 15g sachet Rhodes Quality Tomato Paste<\/li>\n<li>2 x 410g cans Rhodes Quality Chick Peas in brine, rinsed and drained.<\/li>\n<li>45 ml (3 T) sunflower oil<\/li>\n<li>1 onion, finely chopped<\/li>\n<li>1 cloves garlic, crushed<\/li>\n<li>1 bay leaf<\/li>\n<li>5 ml (1t) cumin seeds<\/li>\n<li>5 ml (1t) ground coriander<\/li>\n<li>5 ml (1t) ground paprika<\/li>\n<li>500 ml (2 C) vegetable stock or water<\/li>\n<li>200 g baby spinach leaves, washed<\/li>\n<li>65 ml (1\/4 C) chopped coriander<\/li>\n<li>Salt and freshly cracked black pepper<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Top serve: <\/strong>plain yoghurt, roti or fresh bread<\/p>\n<p><strong>Method:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Heat the oil in a large saucepan.<\/li>\n<li>Add onion and until softened.<\/li>\n<li>Add the garlic, bay leaf and spices and stir well.<\/li>\n<li>Add the stock or water.<\/li>\n<li>Add the Rhodes Quality Tomato and Onion Mix and the Rhodes Quality Tomato Paste.<\/li>\n<li>Add the Rhodes Quality Chick Peas.<\/li>\n<li>Bring to the boil, reduce to a simmer and cook until the sauce is slightly thickened.<\/li>\n<li>Stir in the spinach and cook until the spinach is just wilted but still green.<\/li>\n<li>Stir in the coriander.
