families in kitchens around the country, whipping up delicious salads and sides while the meat sizzles outside on the braai.<\/p>\n<p>If you are planning on having a feast this Heritage Day, here are some delicious recipes courtesy of the South African Poultry Association (SAPA).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-5819\" src=\"https:\/\/getitmagazine.co.za\/joburg-south\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2020\/09\/Egg-Chakalaka-Medium-400x267.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" srcset=\"https:\/\/getitmagazine.co.za\/joburg-south\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2020\/09\/Egg-Chakalaka-Medium-400x267.jpg 400w, https:\/\/getitmagazine.co.za\/joburg-south\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2020\/09\/Egg-Chakalaka-Medium-1024x684.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/getitmagazine.co.za\/joburg-south\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2020\/09\/Egg-Chakalaka-Medium-768x513.jpg 768w, https:\/\/getitmagazine.co.za\/joburg-south\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2020\/09\/Egg-Chakalaka-Medium-696x465.jpg 696w, https:\/\/getitmagazine.co.za\/joburg-south\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2020\/09\/Egg-Chakalaka-Medium-1068x713.jpg 1068w, https:\/\/getitmagazine.co.za\/joburg-south\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2020\/09\/Egg-Chakalaka-Medium-629x420.jpg 629w, https:\/\/getitmagazine.co.za\/joburg-south\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2020\/09\/Egg-Chakalaka-Medium.jpg 1150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Chakalaka bean salad topped with eggs<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><em>Serves 2 \u2013 4<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Preparation time 30 minutes<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>60ml (\u00bc cup) butter<\/li>\n<li>\u00bd red onion, finely chopped<\/li>\n<li>1 garlic clove, finely chopped<\/li>\n<li>2 tomatoes, roughly cubed<\/li>\n<li>\u00bd green pepper, seeded and roughly chopped<\/li>\n<li>4 cauliflower florets, roughly chopped<\/li>\n<li>1 carrot, peeled and grated<\/li>\n<li>180g frozen corn kernels<\/li>\n<li>1 red chilli, seeded and finely chopped<\/li>\n<li>5ml (1 tsp) curry powder<\/li>\n<li>15ml (1 tbsp) ground coriander<\/li>\n<li>Salt and pepper, to taste<\/li>\n<li>1 x 410g baked beans in tomato sauce<\/li>\n<li>3 large eggs, hard boiled and quartered<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Method<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Melt the butter in a flying pan and saut\u00e9 the onions and garlic for a few seconds.<\/li>\n<li>Add the remaining ingredients except for the beans and eggs, and cook over low heat for about 10 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Stir in the beans and cook until warmed through, for a further 10 minutes, top with the egg quarters and serve.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-5820\" src=\"https:\/\/getitmagazine.co.za\/joburg-south\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2020\/09\/egg-cups-Medium-267x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"267\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/getitmagazine.co.za\/joburg-south\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2020\/09\/egg-cups-Medium-267x400.jpg 267w, https:\/\/getitmagazine.co.za\/joburg-south\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2020\/09\/egg-cups-Medium-280x420.jpg 280w, https:\/\/getitmagazine.co.za\/joburg-south\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2020\/09\/egg-cups-Medium.jpg 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 267px) 100vw, 267px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Pap and egg cups<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><em>Makes 12 cups<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Preparation time 30 minutes<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients for the pap<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>375ml water<\/li>\n<li>250ml maize meal<\/li>\n<li>15ml (1 tbsp) butter<\/li>\n<li>250ml mozzarella cheese, grated, plus extra for sprinkling<\/li>\n<li>30ml (2 tbsp) fresh chives, snipped<\/li>\n<li>Salt, to taste<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Ingredients for the cups<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>6 large eggs<\/li>\n<li>80ml (1\/3 cup) milk<\/li>\n<li>Salt and pepper, to taste<\/li>\n<li>250g bacon bits, pan fried<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Method<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Preheat the oven to 180\u00b0 and lightly grease a 12-hole muffin tray.<\/li>\n<li>For the pap, bring the water to the boil and gradually add the maize meal, whisk until well combined, cover and cook on medium heat for 5 minutes. Remove from the heat and add the butter, cheese, chives, salt, and pepper. Stir until the butter has melted.<\/li>\n<li>Press 15ml (1 tbsp.) of the pap into each muffin hole and set aside.<\/li>\n<li>Whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, crispy bacon and pour over the pap layer in the muffin tray.
