Winter’s dark early mornings and chilly evenings have become our new normal, well for the next few months at least. However, there are positives to winter; the main one being curling up on the couch, or lazing late into the mid-morning in bed, with a cup of hot chocolate (or glass of wine, whatever your preference) and bingeing your favourite TV series. And what could be better than a TV series binge? Nothing. Except maybe the type of TV you’re bingeing on.
High-end television brand SKYWORTH was the first to bring Android TV to the country, is now the first to bring AI TV to the country and is making our imaginations become reality. “The S9 OLED TV creatively combines two cutting-edge technologies of colour TV, namely Organic LED (OLED) and HDR. The combination of the two technologies is set to become the trend of the industry,” explains Jaco Joubert SKYWORTH brand manager.
When it comes to choosing what, and how, to binge watch on your SKYWORTH TV, the options are limitless. “Being an Android TV means that users have access to the Google Play Store; i.e. a world of content, as opposed to a manufacturer’s choice of content. The Google Play Store currently offers approximately 30 000 apps and increases daily. Plus, the Android TV’s operating system is upgradeable, including all the apps on the Google Play Store. This means you can keep up with the best in apps, games and entertainment as and when they’re available in the country, without having to fork out on a new device.
So, you’ve got your state-of-the-art S9 OLED TV, which leans slightly back for viewing comfort and has no backlight which means less damage to your eyes, now it’s time to decide what to watch. Here are a few suggestions to get you started:
If you’re a Showmax subscriber and didn’t manage to watch the most talked about TV show of all time – Game of Thrones – in real time, then you can binge all seven seasons now. Make sure you’ve put the kids to bed, have the snacks stocked up, and put your phone down. You’ll need to pay attention to keep up with all the storylines and characters going on.
Also, on Showmax, The Girl from St Agnes is the on-demand service’s first original drama series. This local drama deals with some hard-hitting topical issues that will have you gripped from the start to finish of all eight episodes.
Lastly, Silicon Valley follows a group of nerdy, awkward guys as they attempt to launch their own tech company. It’s five seasons of laugh out loud comedy as they stumble their way through business ups and downs. All five seasons are available to binge.
Then moving onto Netflix and the recently released season of Black Mirror, starring none other than Miley Cyrus in one of the episodes. Every episode of Black Mirror is a different story with different characters. The episodes are stand-alone dramas that are sharp, suspenseful and satirical tales with a techno-paranoid bent. A must-binge.
If you’re a fan of reality cooking shows, then Chef’s Table is for you. David Gelb, director of Jiro Dreams of Sushi, returns to the world of cooking with Chef’s Table, a documentary series where each episode follows a different chef. The chefs are depicted not as mere professionals, but complex people whose lives inform their work.
When three suburban moms orchestrate a local grocery store heist to escape financial ruin and establish independence, together, you just know it’s going to be a binge-worthy series. Season 2 of Good Girls was recently released on Netflix, and now we’re all waiting for Season 3. It’s that good.
Of course, being an AI TV, the S9 can be controlled solely by the user’s voice. “The AI TV range supports both Google Assistant and other smart home devices such as Amazon Alexa, turning your TV into your home’s control centre,” adds Joubert. You can now, literally, converse with your television.
Obviously, you want the best possible picture quality when you’re indulging in some serious series watching. One of the S9 features that’s really created a buzz is the Chameleon AI PQ Extreme. Joubert explains it as, “A picture quality improvement technology based on the PQ chip. It uses AI technology to search, recognise and reconstruct image objects, therefore improving the picture quality precisely.” Chameleon AI PQ Extreme analyses object details based on AI algorithm and adjusts colour performance, particularly red, blue and green, in real time. This means that each pixel can perform at its most accurate and purest colour.
“S9, resume episode 3 of Good Girls, please.” Happy bingeing!
