5 Interior design trends to watch out for now

In: Bold Monochromatic

Out: Pale Monochromatic

According to ELLE Decoration UK, bold is in and pale is out. In their feature, Jonathan Rachman of Decoristsays, “Monochromatic does not have to be pale. Colours like Cobalt Blue, Kelly Green, or even Aubergine can evoke monochromatic in a daring way, that’s full of personality and elegance. The pale-coloured monochromatic rooms (all in taupe or grey or white) with all the furniture, walls, floors and fabrics in the same pale colour palette will be out in 2020. There’s something called ‘too safe,’ and while it may be soothing or calm, it can lack personality and excitement.”

In: Real Plants

Out: Faux Plants

Not being able to keep a plant alive these days is a real faux pas (see what I did there?). The trend of bringing the outdoors in has been a strong one for a few years, and it continues to rise. Add greenery (and air purification) to your interiors with indoor plants – many of which are hard to kill, so there’s no excuse! If you’d like low-maintenance, pick succulents. “Drought-tolerant and virtually indestructible, the best thing about succulents and cacti is you don’t need a green thumb to grow them,” according to HomestoLove.com.au. Mimic the theme throughout your space with Taylor Blinds & Shutters’ Dim-out Roller Blinds in Leaf.

In: Multi-functional design

Out: One-dimensional design

As with our own busy lives of juggling multiple roles, our furniture and décor should be multifunctional too! Something Taylor Blinds & Shutters prides itself on – offering solutions for various scenarios with one product. For example, the Thermowood Shutters. Beautiful to look at and divine to touch, these shutters, available in various shades, allow in natural light, provide privacy on demand, and easily transform rooms by merging indoor-and-outdoor living when stacked.

In: Earthy Tones

Out: Cool Tones

The ELLE Decoration UK trend report went on to note: “Say goodbye to the cool tones that have ruled for so many years. Shades of chocolate brown, wine, olive green, and yellow ochre are all taking over in homes. We love substituting these warm, natural colours for a neutral on the sofa or walls,” says Marika Meyer of Meyer Interiors. Add a touch of warmth to your space – and amp up your security concurrently – with Taylor Blinds & Shutters’ Shutterguard Aluminium Security Shutters in Matt Bronze.

In: Velvet furnishings

Out: Overly-patterned upholstery

According to CollectedInterior.com, 2020 is the year of velvet when it comes to interiors and soft furnishings. “[The fabric is] the perfect blend of luxury and comfort. When most people think of velvet, they’re often thinking about the old red velvet upholstery of yesteryear. This year, and into the next, interior design firms are taking a deep dive into velvet design options, particularly for sofas. And, our colour options are wider than ever. We’re talking vibrant blues, pinks, burnt orange and shades of taupe. The possibilities for velvet furniture in 2020 are endless.”
