{"id":17407,"date":"2023-07-26T08:00:23","date_gmt":"2023-07-26T06:00:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/getitmagazine.co.za\/joburg-west\/?p=17407"},"modified":"2024-05-31T09:13:05","modified_gmt":"2024-05-31T07:13:05","slug":"amasi-pot-bread","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/getitmagazine.co.za\/joburg-west\/blog\/2023\/07\/26\/amasi-pot-bread\/","title":{"rendered":"Amasi Pot Bread"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><strong>Impress your guests with this amazing recipe for pot bread (did we mention it&#8217;s as easy to make as it is delicious?).<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Serves: 15 &#8211; 20<br \/>\nBaking time: 60 min<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>8 cups cake flour<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp salt<\/li>\n<li>\u2153 cup white sugar<\/li>\n<li>20 g (2 packets) instant yeast<\/li>\n<li>500 ml (2 cups) amasi<\/li>\n<li>500 ml (2 cups) luke warm water<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Method:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Preheat oven to 180\u00b0C.<\/li>\n<li>In a bowl mix the dry ingredients flour, yeast, sugar and salt.<\/li>\n<li>Add the luke warm water to the bowl and mix, ensuring that all the ingredients are well combined to create the bread dough.<\/li>\n<li>Add the amasi to the dough and continue to knead.<\/li>\n<li>Place the dough on a floured surface and\u00a0continue kneading for 20 &#8211; 25 minutes until dough is smooth and elastic.<\/li>\n<li>Grease a bowl with oil, place the dough in the bowl and cover with a kitchen towel. Place the bowl with the dough in a warm area and leave to rest for 30 &#8211; 40 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Once rested and proofed to about double the size, knock down and transfer the dough into a cast iron pot lined with baking paper.<\/li>\n<li>Bake in the oven for 30 minutes with the lid on.<\/li>\n<li>Then remove the lid and bake for another 30 minutes to allow the crust to brown and become crispy.<\/li>\n<li>Brush with some melted butter when there is 10 minutes of baking left, this will help to give the bread a crispy crust.<\/li>\n<li>Once baked through remove for the oven and allow to cool before cutting<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The recipe is provided by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rediscoverdairy.co.za\/\">Rediscover Dairy<\/a>, an initiative of the Consumer Education Project of Milk SA.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Impress your guests with this amazing recipe for pot bread (did we mention it&#8217;s as easy to make as it is delicious?).
