Eggs are high in vitamin A and selenium, important nutrients for normal immune function.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Eggs are good for the eyes.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Egg yolks are good for the eyes as this is the part of the egg that has <a href=\"https:\/\/protect-za.mimecast.com\/s\/_Cf6CmwXnxU5EyXJsGBwHY?domain=annualreviews.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">lutein and zeaxanthin<\/a>. These nutrients have been shown to lower the risk of <a href=\"https:\/\/protect-za.mimecast.com\/s\/xQNHCnZJoyTGM9wOsJR2Tx?domain=researchgate.net\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cataracts<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/protect-za.mimecast.com\/s\/ErO5CoYJ0zTXx29qfVR2jR?domain=sciencedirect.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">macular degeneration<\/a>, the leading cause of blindness in older people.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Eggs are good for the heart.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While eggs do contain cholesterol, eating eggs will not necessarily raise your cholesterol. Compared to non-egg eaters, <a href=\"https:\/\/protect-za.mimecast.com\/s\/mlOeCpgVqAhzX4kMsGopEu?domain=ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">those who eat eggs daily have a lower risk of heart disease and stroke<\/a>, and also a lower risk of dying from these conditions, too.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Eggs are good for muscle building.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When combined with resistance (weight) training, protein provides the building blocks for muscle building and repair. Eggs are a source of high-quality protein: one large egg contains 7g of protein. Eating<a href=\"https:\/\/protect-za.mimecast.com\/s\/wgbbCqj8rBcOmYB0uN0_ad?domain=ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> whole eggs immediately after resistance exercise<\/a> results in better muscle building than if just eating the egg white.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. Eat the whole egg, not just the white.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While the egg white contains protein, selenium and the B-vitamin riboflavin, there is a lot of nutrition in the egg yolk. The egg yolk contains heart-healthy fats (monounsaturated fats) and half of the protein of the whole egg. If you avoid eating the egg yolk, you\u2019re missing out on vitamin D and iron, too.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6. Eggs help vegetarians meet their nutrient needs.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Plant-based eating like vegetarianism is on the rise. Vegetarians are encouraged to supplement their diets with <a href=\"https:\/\/protect-za.mimecast.com\/s\/-0IZCr07vDcALQMVTN5VXC?domain=ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">vitamin B12<\/a>. One large egg contains almost 44% of our B12 needs and is high in protein to meet these nutrient needs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>7. Eggs are good as part of an energy-restricted diet.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Eating an omelette at lunch could help you feel fuller and even have you eating less at the next meal, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/protect-za.mimecast.com\/s\/pOpsCvgJz0hWMw1Nuy14Yc?domain=s3.amazonaws.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2011 study<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>8. Eggs are good to eat during pregnancy.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A vital nutrient for pregnant women is <a href=\"https:\/\/protect-za.mimecast.com\/s\/Ff_XCwjgALcLYl68HQmnGC?domain=ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">choline<\/a>, which plays a key role in the development of a baby\u2019s brain and nervous system. Eggs contain choline, making eggs a good choice as part of a healthy diet during pregnancy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>9. In a country with high rates of malnutrition, eggs have the potential to contribute to both local and global goals to reduce stunting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>10. Eggs are versatile and store well.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Scrambled for breakfast, quiche for lunch, frittata for dinner or boiled as a snack, eggs can be eaten at any time of the day and in so many forms. Eggs also store well in our pantries or fridges.<\/p>\n<p><strong>11. Eggs are good because they\u2019re cost-effective food.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Compared to other protein sources like meat, chicken and fish, eggs are relatively well-priced and offer an affordable source of protein.<\/p>\n<p><strong>12.
