9 Laundry tricks you should have up your sleeve

Let’s face it, spending hours doing the laundry every week can be a drag. You’ve probably experienced at least one moment of despair when your clothes have changed colour after a load of washing has gone wrong, or your machine starts to emit a strange and unpleasant smell.

Well, these handy tricks will make doing your laundry effortless so that you can get on with more important things.

  1. Soften sheets with vinegar
When washing your linen, add half a cup of white vinegar to give them a quick boost of softness and brightness, and to remove lingering odours.
  1. Throw your detergent cap in with the load to remove grime
There’s nothing worse than a sticky detergent bottle lid. Don’t waste time wiping it. Rather, just toss it into the wash with your clothes – as long as they’re not delicates.
  1. Use chalk to remove grease stains
Rubbing chalk into the stain before tossing the garment into the wash will soak up every annoying grease splodge, from lipstick to bacon!
  1. Put your Covid-19 hand sanitiser to good use
The alcohol found in both hairspray and hand sanitiser can act as a powerful solvent. If you have a stubborn stain, saturate it with either product. Allow to sit for at least 10 minutes and then throw it into the wash as usual.
  1. Use the right tools
We suggest the LG ThinQ range of AI-enabled washing machines that will make doing laundry effortless and save you precious hours. They’re super eco-friendly and the AI DD technology detects the weight of a load, identifies your laundry’s fabric type and automatically chooses the best motion to suit a load.
  1. Un-shrink clothes with hair conditioner
If you’ve shrunk your favourite woollen jersey, soak it in lukewarm water mixed with ordinary hair conditioner. After about 30 minutes, you should be able to gently stretch it back out to its original form. This hack only works with wool, so don’t go shrinking your jeans on purpose!
  1. Add a tennis ball while drying blankets and pillows
Adding two or three clean tennis balls into the dryer with throws, pillows, and other bedding will not only help them remain nice and fluffy, but it can also even help them dry faster.
  1. Use baking soda and vinegar to clean your machine
All the grime that you’re rinsing off can sometimes leave your machine smelling downright nasty. Simply run an empty load with baking soda and vinegar to refresh your washer.
  1. Less is more
Rather do more loads of laundry with fewer items in each load. Your clothes will come out cleaner and they’ll be easier to iron too.
