Situated in Riverside Mall since 1998, Detroit Spur is still in the family with the second generation, Uys du Preez, at the helm. Newly revamped, it has undergone a few pertinent changes, but the formula for a good family restaurant remains the key principle. Uys, who is as passionate about the brand as his dad was before him, believes the success of this restaurant is down to key factors – top-quality food and excellent service from familiar faces. \u201cWe strive for excellence,\u201d he smiles.<\/p>\n

Central to the new look is Uys\u2019s commitment to an outstanding kids play area. \u201cBeing a dad myself, I decided that part of the revamp would be to create a children\u2019s play area that is big enough for kids to really have fun, and is completely safe,\u201d Uys explains. \u201cOne of the most significant advantages of having a play area in a restaurant is that it allows parents to enjoy a meal without constantly needing to entertain their kids.\u201d The revamp also includes brand-new toilets with a convenient baby changing facility. This informal familiarity makes customers feel more at home – it is what they have come to expect from Detroit Spur in Riverside Mall over the years.<\/p>\n

Detroit Spur\u2019s play area is designed to engage children with a variety of activities, from climbing structures to slides and interactive play features.<\/p>\n

Uys explains that safety is a top priority for him. The play area is designed with child-friendly materials and safety features to prevent accidents and ensure children are protected as they play. There is a toddler area with soft blocks, games for older kids and a massive jungle gym. It\u2019s an enclosed area with one entrance in and out for added security. The area is regularly cleaned and sanitised, offering peace of mind to parents concerned about hygiene.<\/p>\n

This has also become a popular place to host kiddies\u2019 birthdays, but you\u2019ll need to book well in advance as there is limited space, especially over weekends. Spur will assist with the choice of party packs, and there is a variety of meals the kids can choose from, including nuggets, burgers, fish fingers, chicken strips and toasted sandwiches. The restaurant also does kitchen tours and bookings with schools.<\/p>\n
