We have the most beautiful teen growing up in Middelburg.

Hailey Saaiman is collecting one sash and one crown after the other. Her resume includes Miss World Heritage Queen International, Miss Junior Middelburg, Miss Elite Beauty Solutions, Miss Pre Teen ZA just to name a few.

She is currently a finalist for Miss Teen Legs South Africa and also preparing for the Miss Teen Sky Nations pageant that is taking place now.

At the tender age of 15 Hailey is turning the modelling world on its head.

We managed to secure an interview as this beauty’s schedule is hectic.

Hailey wakes up at 05:45; she leaves for school at 07:15, at 15:30 she is on the athletics field where she practices for an hour and a half. Modelling classes start at 17:00 to 18:00. She spends time with homework between 18:15 and 20:00 and at around 21:30 she finally gets to bed.

Our first question was; how does this 15-year-old manage this?

“Being the only child, the support I get from my parents means the world to me, carting me round from school, athletics, photo shoots and pageants. I am eternally grateful for all their love and endless support,” Hailey said.

Don’t let her petite posture fool you. Hayley is not the wide-eyed girl from the ‘platteland’ thrown into the fast phased world of modelling and high fashion. She knows what she wants and she works for it.

Hailey’s modelling career started when she entered photographic competitions. This inspired her to take up modelling classes and compete in stage pageants.

“I simply cannot decide what my favourite part of modelling is, is it posing in front of a photographer’s lens, walking a fashion ramp or glitzing up for a pageant. I enjoy all three divisions of the industry.”

Off the ramp and away from the flashing cameras the grade-nine learner attends Hoërskool Kanonkop.

Maths and the intriguing world of nature science are her favourite subjects. She is no stranger on the sports field where she excels in field and track.

She has some advice for young girls her age wanting to become the next big model, “Do it! Even if it is just to enhance your self-esteem and confidence. Amongst the pageants, I have gained a lot of self-confidence and met new people.”

With the pageant side of modelling Hayley had the opportunity to do charity work, and she loves giving back to those in need, “I enjoy spending time at the Middelburg SPCA and playing with the kittens at Feral Care Friends.”

How does she manage being a model and still nurture her inner-child?

“By just being me … Hailey Saaiman. Like any other teenager I enjoy chocolates, shopping, spending time with my friends and family, I enjoy being barefoot running in the garden and playing with my dogs or making scrap booking cards at home. I am just me.”

Making it as a mainstream model takes much more than just a pretty face and a fit figure. You need to be the total package, a mix of genetics, personality, talent, resilience, industry knowledge, and business smart to thrive in the modelling industry. There is no doubt that Hailey Saaiman from Middelburg is the total package.
