Let’s plant a lemon tree this month.

To grow a lemon tree is not difficult at all.

Outdoor growing: Due to lemon’s cold sensitivity it should be planted on the south side. Try to protect it from frost by planting it close to the house, and be sure to cover it during winter months. Lemon trees do like full sunshine for adequate growth. The trees available at local nurseries were specifically created for the Highveld conditions.

Lemon trees can tolerate a range of soil types, but most prefer well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Lemon trees should be set slightly higher than ground level. Therefore, dig a hole somewhat shallower than the length of the root ball. Place the tree in the hole and replace the soil, tamping firmly as you go. Water sufficiently and add some much to retain moisture. Lemon trees require deep watering once weekly. If necessary pruning may be done to maintain their shape and height.
