It is after all one of the ultimate breakfast or dessert treats.<\/p>\n<p>Although the recipe for making basic waffles is the same around the world, the same cannot be said for the toppings.<\/p>\n<p>South Africans tend to stick to the likes of honey, Nutella, ice-cream or banana and cream while Americans like to tuck into waffles topped with fried chicken or stacked with crispy bacon and drenched in maple syrup.<\/p>\n<p>Swedish waffles are made in special irons that create four heart shapes and are usually served with a dollop of cream and fresh berries while in Hong Kong you will find waffles laced with the flavours of peanut butter or honey melon.<\/p>\n<p>Whatever toppings tickles your fancy, make sure you celebrate International Waffle Day with this classic recipe from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.capsicumcooking.com\/\">Capsicum Culinary Studio<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASSIC WAFFLES <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Makes 10 to 12 waffles<\/p>\n<p><strong>You\u2019ll need:<\/strong> 2 cups all-purpose flour; 1 teaspoon salt; 4 teaspoons baking powder; 2 tablespoons white sugar; 2 eggs; 1 \u00bd cups warm milk; \u2153 cup butter, melted; 1 teaspoon vanilla extract<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to:\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In a large bowl, mix the flour, salt, baking powder and sugar then set aside. Pre-heat your waffle iron to the desired temperature.<\/p>\n<p>In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, then stir in the milk, butter and vanilla. Pour the wet mixture into the dry mixture and beat until well blended.<\/p>\n<p>Ladle the batter into the hot waffle iron and cook until golden and crisp.
