Do a monthly perimeter check to ensure that there are no low overhanging branches over the wall or fence surrounding your property. Remember to close garage doors during the day and don\u2019t leave any unattended doors or windows open around your home.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Casual guarding:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Although no one wants to have to think about security when they are having fun, the reality exists that criminals are aware that functions and parties generally mean easy pickings and easy targets. Sometimes the mere presence of a security officer with a panic button is enough to deter would-be criminals.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Be prepared: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Speak to your family members, staff and tenants about possible scenarios so they can be aware of what to do should they ever find themselves confronted with a home invasion.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In the unfortunate event that a criminal is able to force their way into your home, it is advised to do the following:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Keep calm:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> The first few minutes of a home invasion are generally the most dangerous. Stay as calm as possible and to try to evaluate the situation. If you don&#8217;t feel your life is under imminent threat, don&#8217;t fight back.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Let it happen: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Try your best to accept your situation and give your assailants time to take any material possessions they want. Speak only if spoken to, and try to keep your answers short and to the point.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Pay attention: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Be conscious not to stare at the assailants but try nevertheless to get a good look at them.
