Like the Tom Thumb of fairytale, this aspect never fails to fascinate adults and children alike.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_22218\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-22218\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-22218 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/getitmagazine.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Alice-Coetzee-08-05-2026-gardening-roses-photo-2-400x348.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"348\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-22218\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mine rose \u2018Dreaming Parade.\u2019<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Mini rose \u2018Dreaming Parade\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Miniature roses are &#8216;everywhere&#8217; roses. They can be squeezed in between paving stones, as low flowering borders, in pots, on tables, around water features, trained up arches or espaliered in a formal garden.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t be misled by the term \u2018miniature.\u2019 It only refers to the flower and leaf size. The\u00a0bush can vary in height from a compact 40cm to as high as a metre\u00a0and even climbers\u00a0.<\/p>\n<p>Their biggest asset is the profusion of flowers that they produce. Because they have a multitude of small 10cm to 15cm-long stems covering the bush, miniatures produce more flowers and repeat flower more quickly than normal bush roses.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_22219\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-22219\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-22219 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/getitmagazine.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Alice-Coetzee-08-05-2026-gardening-roses-photo-3-400x267.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-22219\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mini rose \u2018Kayla\u2019.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Mini rose \u2018Kayla\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>They are also much hardier growers and have fewer problems than bigger roses. They recover much more quickly from black spot because leaf production is so fast and the genetic background of miniatures, mainly <em>Rosa chinensis,<\/em> has resulted in a more disease\u00a0\u00a0resistant\u00a0plant.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_22220\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-22220\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-22220\" src=\"https:\/\/getitmagazine.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Alice-Coetzee-08-05-2026-gardening-roses-photo-4-400x268.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"268\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-22220\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mini rose \u2018Zinger\u2019.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Mini rose \u2018Zinger\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For an effective border in front of taller roses or other flowers plant two rows of medium high mini\u2019s like \u2018Zinger\u2019 (60cm tall) for a mass effect. Zinger is a healthy vigorous plant that provides excellent garden value and also creates a splash of colour in a hanging basket.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_22221\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-22221\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-22221 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/getitmagazine.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Alice-Coetzee-08-05-2026-gardening-roses-photo-5-400x281.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"281\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-22221\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mini rose \u2018Chasin\u2019 Rainbows\u2019.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Mini rose &#8216;Chasin\u2019 Rainbows\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Another compact mini is \u2018Chasin\u2019 Rainbows\u2019 (40cm) that is excellent for neat borders. It is compact, but vigorous and hardy and the bloom colours change from yellow to orange, red and pink.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_22222\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-22222\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-22222 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/getitmagazine.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Alice-Coetzee-08-05-2026-gardening-roses-photo-6-400x303.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"303\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-22222\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mini rose \u2018Peach Festival\u2019.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Mini rose \u2018Peach Festival\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Create a hedge by planting together some of the taller growing miniatures, like Peach Festival\u2019 (80cm), and clipping them with hedge shears. By pruning them lightly they will grow up and can make a decent sized hedge. \u2018Peach Festival\u2019 is a sturdy grower with large blooms of a deep glowing coral on long pickable stems.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_22223\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-22223\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-22223 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/getitmagazine.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Alice-Coetzee-08-05-2026-gardening-roses-photo-7-400x284.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"284\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-22223\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mini rose \u2019Scentsational\u2019.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>\u00a0Mini rose \u2019Scentsational\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Grow some of the more pickable varieties like \u2019Scentsational for charming arrangements of miniature roses in the home.
