Meet the brilliant band of women powering this year’s Fair with Flair – themed Festive Flair, Salty Air.
The Fair with Flair is the annual fundraiser for the Christmas Fair Fund, where a group of dedicated women craft beautiful handmade items, with proceeds supporting a variety of local causes. These women aren’t just volunteers; they’re friends, confidantes and a sanctuary for one another.
Many have journeyed through loss and change, finding laughter, purpose and steadfast companionship along the way. “It’s a space for real friendship,” says Claire Lewis, head of the creative committee. “When I lost my husband, this group was an incredible source of support.”
Handmade coastal magic
This year, the team has channelled their creativity into coastal–Mediterranean-inspired designs from their base at Karibu Nursery, meeting twice a week. Expect mussel shell Christmas trees, oyster shell wreaths, and hand-sewn fabric napkins and placemats featuring lobsters, sardines and crabs. Painted in chic neutrals and French navy with pops of pink, green and yellow, the collection draws on global trends while keeping a local flair.
Locally made, sustainably minded
The fair champions “loving local,” with artisans from basket weavers to woodworkers contributing. Sustainability and upcycling are at the heart of every creation, reflecting community spirit and environmental care.
Mentorship and friendship
Newcomers are welcomed warmly, with seasoned volunteers guiding them in both craft and conversation. “It’s therapy, friendship and fun rolled into one!” says fair organiser Michelle Blake.
