In less than a fortnight, since the call for entries was first announced, more than 300 hopefuls have already applied to enter Miss South Africa 2019, with the winner – who takes home cash and prizes worth more than R2-million – set to be crowned on Women’s Day on August 9.
The Miss South Africa Organisation has made the entry process as easy as possible which means there are no forms to download and no regional auditions to which hopefuls have to travel.
Those who wish to enter can simply visit www.misssa.co.za, fill in a number of questions and upload pictures from their social media accounts such as Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
Says Stephanie Weil of the Miss South Africa Organisation: “We wanted the reach to be wider this year and give young women from any region of the country the opportunity to take part.”
It seems likely that a record number of entries will be received this year. Last year, just short of 500 young women entered the pageant despite entry process being opened for a much longer period.
The 2019 Miss South Africa pageant will be held at Sun International’s flagship venue, the Sun Arena at Times Square, Pretoria, and will be broadcast live on both M-Net and Mzanzi Magic.
Entries for this year’s competition close on June 10. To enter, go to www.misssa.co.za and click ‘How to Enter’ at the bottom of the page. Sixteen finalists – all of whom will receive R25 000 – will be announced on July 11.

MISS SOUTH AFRICA 2019 ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
The women who compete for the title of Miss South Africa embody the modern, global aspiration for the potential within all women. The winner of the competition must be confident and independent. She must understand the values of the Miss South Africa brand and the responsibilities of the title. She must have the ability to articulate her ambition and demonstrate authenticity, credibility and exhibit grace under pressure.
An applicant must be a South African citizen and in possession of a valid South African ID document or passport.
Miss SA contestants must be truthful in respect of all matters in relation to the run up to the pageant, the pageant itself and the period after the pageant. False information will lead to automatic disqualification. Contestants are required to adhere to the guidelines of the Miss SA organisation with respect to social media, media and public correspondence, communication and interaction.
Finalists will be contracted to the Miss South Africa Organisation to partake in pre-competition activities and video and photoshoots. Finalists will be required to attend a number of engagements, sponsor events and workshops and will therefore not be eligible to enter another competition.
Miss SA is contracted to the Miss SA organisation for the full year of her reign. Following the completion of her reign she will be required to assist with up to 12 appearances. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
AGE
An applicant must be at least 20 years of age and be under 27 years of age by August 9, 2019. This is in line with international pageant requirements. An applicant must have been born after December 1, 1992 but before November 30, 1999 to be eligible to enter.
CAN A CONTESTANT BE MARRIED?
Applicants may not be married or pregnant. They must not have ever been married, not had a marriage annulled nor given birth to, or parented a child. The titleholder/s are also required to remain unmarried throughout their reign.
HOW TALL DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO ENTER?
There are no height restrictions for applicants.
CAN YOUNG WOMEN ENTER MORE THAN ONCE?
Contestants may compete more than once in Miss South Africa. However, no previous title holders or runner ups (first or second princess) can enter again.
HOW DOES ONE BEST PREPARE FOR THE PAGEANT?
A contestant should understand the values of the Miss South Africa Organisation and the responsibilities of the title. She should be able to express what her personal and professional goals would be during her reign. Consider the below when competing on a national level.
- Describe what your aspirations are and why you are competing for a title.
- What have you done in your community to show leadership?
- How would you use your title to impact society?
- What social group would be your focus and why?
- How would you help solve issues in the world, not just in your home country?
- How can you make this world a better place if you were crowned?
