World-class surfing, a jam-packed beach festival, retail, food and loads of live entertainment … the Ballito Pro 2021 presented by O’Neill is here.
Spectators, beach-goers, holidaymakers and anyone and everyone who loves surfing and summer fun will be thrilled to know that the Ballito Pro 2021 presented by O’Neill is happening from 9 to 19 December on KwaDukuza’s Willard Beach.
The theme this year is: #WeAreGrowing #Siyakhula – a result of organisers having to rethink and readjust to ensure the event (which was postponed due to Covid-19 restrictions earlier this year) could take place.
Speaking at the media launch for this year’s event at Fiamma Grill recently, coordinator Collette Bundy said the event being postponed gave rise to new ideas and new perspectives and allowed them to create something just as good as what we’ve had in the past, within our new normality.
This year marks the 55th edition of this much-anticipated event on the SA surfing calendar.
Apart from the world-class surfing, Ballito Pro visitors have loads of other events and entertainment to look forward to, including a Ballito Pro skate competition, free sunrise yoga and pilates, beach volleyball, daily fashion shows and beach mania and dance displays.
A retail section will be operational at Willard Beach daily from 9am to 5pm, featuring a food court and cider garden, arts and crafts, surfboard displays and shaping and virtual reality rides. The Mikes Kitchen ‘kids zone’ at Willard Beach will include face painting, water balls, sandcastle building and beach activations, competitions and giveaways. There will also be an awesome ‘After Dark’ programme with live entertainment at Yami’s and Mikes Kitchen, a Ballito Village sunset festival and the very exciting all-new Gidela Lounge and Shisaynyama.
Apart from all of this, the Ballito Pro will also be running an environmental awareness campaign alongside Sarah Ferguson, the founder of Breath Conservation, renowned channel swimmer and world record holder. The programme will include a guided marine walk and pop-up snorkel day.
In addition, there will be a Covid-19 safety campaign and vaccination site at the event, as part of a partnership with the Ballito Pro presented by O’Neill, IPSS Medical and We Thrive. There will be both vaccination and testing sites at Willard Beach from 9 to 19 December and people can book via the We Thrive website (www.wethrive.co.za) for vaccinations in store at We Thrive Ballito or at the Pro.
