Skincare laser pigment color change at day spa being preformed on face of woman by technician.

Our warm North Coast climate and long sunny days mean we have to hold off on certain facial treatments until the cooler months arrive. We recently tried out the Limelight treatment at The Good Skin Co, which is ideally suited for winter months.

If your skin is damaged from the sun, or you have unwanted pigmentation (such as freckles, blotchiness, redness and rosacea), then the Limelight treatment might be just what you’re looking for.

A laser treatment where the laser is attracted to either melanocytes (pigment cells) or red blood cells on the skin, Limelight is highly effective and, according to The Good Skin co-owner Michelle Blom, considered the ‘gold standard’ treatment for sun damage and post inflammatory pigmentation.

The process consists of two treatments which can be done annually (preferably in winter) and is very quick and just slightly uncomfortable.
After preparing your skin with a gel, therapist Tammy Stanhopes uses the Cutera Laser to perform the procedure. (The Cutera Laser is a customisable, multi-application laser and light-based device used to treat a wide range of nonsurgical aesthetic concerns).

The actual treatment lasts just a few minutes and involves a series of blasts or ‘shots’ of laser to the specific areas you want targeted. Afterwards, Tammy applies ice packs to your skin to cool the areas, and the hot, burning sensations lasts for about an hour afterwards.
After the treatment, you will experience darkening of the pigmentation and redness, which lasts for about four to five days. Make sure you have some good quality foundation to apply to cover up if you’re going to be out and about and don’t forget your sunscreen (even in the cooler months). As the skin sheds, the pigment starts to peel off, leaving you with beautiful new skin underneath.
