Magic & memories

So many special moments and milestones take place in your child’s bedroom, and beautiful wallpaper can form the perfect backdrop for these precious memories.

“We don’t just create beautiful nursery spaces, we provide a haven of calm and creativity,” says Munks and Me founder Kris Knutsen. We encourage young parents to be present in each moment with their children by crafting spaces that ignite stories and give life to imaginary characters that become part of the family.”
Munks and Me is a family-run print house specialising in wallpaper and wall murals. Working from their Salt Rock home (with the rest of the team working remotely), husband and wife team Darran and Kris ship their exquisite, customised wallpaper around the world.
Working with talented artists, they create beautiful curated collections with one-of-a-kind patterns. We asked them to share some tips for choosing a wallpaper for your nursery or any kids spaces. Here are the things they say are important to consider:

  • SAFETY: Ensure the wallpaper is made from high-quality materials that are safe for your baby or child. Munks and Me uses CFC-free media and non-toxic ink, free from chemicals and toxins.”
  • PLACEMENT OF THE WALLPAPER: You might choose to use it on a single feature wall, or to cover the entire room. If you decide to use it on a single feature wall, consider choosing a complementary paint colour for the remaining walls to tie the room together.
  • ROOM DECOR: Choose bedding, curtains and accessories that complement the wallpaper and enhance the theme.

3 BEAUTIFUL WALLPAPER IDEAS FOR KIDS ROOMS . . .
Kris shares three gorgeous examples of what can be achieved with the right wallpaper.

  1. Safari theme

“A popular theme for nurseries, this theme incorporates the natural beauty and wildlife of the African continent into the decor. African safari themed wallpaper typically features a range of animals such as lions, elephants, giraffes, zebra and monkeys, as well as various flora and fauna.
The colours used often include earthy tones like greens, browns and beige, which create a warm and inviting atmosphere for the nursery. The theme is also gender-neutral, which means it can work for both boys and girls, and is a great way to introduce your baby to different animals and environments which help stimulate their imagination and curiosity. Plus, safari wallpaper can create a fun and adventurous atmosphere that’s perfect for a nursery.”

  2. Abstract vibes
“Abstract designs are perfect for parents who want to add a touch of modernity to their baby’s nursery. The designs can be bold and bright or muted and subtle, depending on the colour palette and style of the design. Some popular abstract designs include watercolour patterns, brushstroke patterns and splatter patterns.

“Murals are also a great way to add a touch of whimsy and imagination to a nursery or children’s space. These large-scale designs can be customised to fit the theme of the room, and can create a focal point that will capture a baby’s attention. Whether you opt for botanical prints, geometric patterns, abstract designs, textured wallpapers, or murals, there is a wallpaper style to suit every taste and every nursery theme. With the right wallpaper, you can create a space that unlocks creativity and where our babies and children will thrive,” says Kris.

  3. Neutral nursery
“There was once a time when blue was for boys and pink for girls, but these days the trend has moved towards a more gender-neutral look, which means gender-neutral wallpaper.
“Our neutral nursery collection came to life after we were being asked to transform our most popular murals into monochrome versions for parents looking for a more neutral look and feel.“Neutral nursery wallpaper designs with warm tones like browns, caramels, mushroom and terracotta allow you to create a calm, soothing environment for you and your baby. Great to use for more than one child, too. “It’s versatile and can work with a variety of different decor styles and, whether you’re going for a minimalist look or a more traditional style, neutral wallpaper can fit in seamlessly. It’s also timeless, so you won’t have to update the wallpaper as your baby grows.”Details: www.munksandme.com, @munksandme
