Teenage skin can be temperamental, not only because your hormones are going wild, causing increased sebum (oil) production, which often results in acne, blackheads, and whiteheads…there are a whole host of other factors too! Take control of your skin by adopting these healthy skincare tips:

  1. Eat well: Encourage a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Limit sugary and processed foods.
  2. Hydrate often: Drinking plenty of water helps maintain the skin’s elasticity and hydration.
  3. Breathe out the stress: Help teenagers develop stress management techniques, such as exercise, meditation, yoga, or deep breathing exercises.
  4. Sleep more: Ensure teenagers get enough sleep. A well-rested body is better equipped to handle stress and maintain healthy skin.
  5. Gentle cleansing: Use a mild, sulphate-free cleanser to remove excess oil and impurities. Avoid over-cleansing, as this can strip the skin of its natural oils. We love Vitaderm’s Mild Gel Cleanser, that is gentle even on the most sensitive skin and contains sandalwood, lavender and petitgrain extracts.
  6. Moisturise: Contrary to popular belief, even oily skin needs moisture. Opt for a light weight, non-greasy moisturiser to maintain a healthy skin barrier. Try: Vitaderm’s Ultra-Light Moisture Cream that contains phyto extracts of sandalwood and orange leaf that provide effective sebum normalising benefits, and chamomile and lavender extracts offer soothing and healing properties.
  7. Sunscreen is your friend: Always wear sunscreen with at least SPF 30 to protect the skin from UV damage, which can exacerbate acne and lead to premature ageing.
  8. Zap breakouts: Salicylic acid is well-known for its remarkable ability to clear congestion and reduce inflammation. One of our go-to products is Vitaderm’s Salicylic Spot Treatment, with Vitamins B3 and E to help boost micro-circulation and skin healing.
  9. It’s as easy as vitamin C: Research shows that vitamin C can help protect the skin from sunburn, photo ageing, hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, sagging, dryness, and an uneven skin tone. It’s also ideal for acne-prone complexions, so opt for a product that will give you the vitamin C your skin needs.

If you’ve tried all of the above and still struggle with your skin, it’s probably time to speak to a dermatologist and get some expert advice.
