The much-anticipated five-door Jimny was recently launched – and we were lucky enough to take it for a spin.
It’s always exciting when a new car is unveiled, so when we heard that the five-door Jimny from Suzuki was ready to hit the road, we were excited to see what it had to offer. We met with the team at Suzuki in Umhlali who gave us the keys to the brand-new model in jungle green – a real beauty and noticeably more spacious than its predecessor. We took a drive around Umhlali and Salt Rock and were immediately impressed with its overall driveability.
It’s clear that the Jimny is built for off-roading and according to the Suzuki team, it’s already causing a buzz amongst those who would like to trade their three-door Jimnys for something with more space. Its combination of toughness and comfort make it ideal for families who enjoy four-by-four adventures and need that little bit of extra room. Designed for adventure, the model features a ladder frame chassis, an impressive ground clearance of 210mm, and a short wheel base that makes it very easy to manoeuvre, even on rough terrains.
While the vehicle is all about practicality and off-road capability, it’s safe to say there’s been no compromise on aesthetics either. It really stands out on the road, thanks to its distinctive shape and design. The interior is modern and clean, with a touchscreen infotainment system that’s easy to use. We loved our jungle green ride – it would look great in the bush – but there’s a range of other colours available too, including a bright kinetic yellow and a classic shade of red.
Although it has stayed true to the overall look for which it is so well-loved, the new Jimny is 360mm longer than its predecessor and boasts considerably more boot space. It’s also possible to fold the rear seats flat, which is handy if you need the additional luggage space. Its height and width remain the same, so it hasn’t completely lost its compact feel.
With its rugged design and off-road features, we would have loved to have taken the five-door for an even longer drive. It certainly had us dreaming of adventures off the beaten track!
