Modern charm

Tamarin Collins, co-owner and designer at Urban Create reveals one of her latest projects – a gorgeous home that blends current trends with comfortable living.

With its clean lines, big windows and contemporary design elements, this home in Simbithi Eco Estate makes a striking statement against a natural backdrop of indigenous bush and trees. The house, built by Phumlani Construction Group, boasts some unique features, without compromising on liveability.

While working on the project, Tamarin found ways to create an interior that was modern and comfortable, making sure to add a touch of quirkiness along the way. Views over the Simbithi Golf Course serve as the focal point of the home – as such, the architect positioned living and bedroom spaces strategically to embrace the scenery. “The challenge was to seamlessly blend the modern with the natural, creating a home that felt both cutting-edge and inviting,” explains Tamarin.

When it comes to the colour palette of the home, neutral tones form the foundation, with bold pops of colour making an appearance in strategic places. “Colour was introduced through fun wallpapers and bespoke artwork commissioned from the client’s friend, adding a unique touch,” says Tamarin. “The bold, colourful wallpapers and face sculptures serve as eye-catching focal points. These carefully chosen elements create a unique and inviting interior.” Striking wallpapers are used in various spaces throughout the home, and Tamarin’s personal favourite is the one she used in the guest bathroom for the pyjama lounge. Materials like natural wood and stone were chosen to ground the design, creating a harmonious blend of contemporary elegance and organic warmth.

Tamarin is a nature-lover herself so she loved working on this home, which has no fences to allow for the free movement of wildlife. The entertainment area with its sunken boma and turquoise pool are among the stand-out features of the space, and are designed for long days and relaxed evenings outside. Large sliding doors to all the bedrooms and living areas provide great views of the golf course, bringing the outdoors seamlessly inside.

While contemporary design trends guided the project, Tamarin says that a conscious effort was made to incorporate timeless elements. By sticking to a neutral base and using sleek modern furniture with classic and natural materials, the overall design remains relevant.
