We popped in to Skin Solutions in Ballito to try a hydrating facial treatment.
Although we’re blessed with mild winters on the North Coast, many of us struggle with a common skin concern in the cooler months – dryness. As temperatures drop, so does the humidity, stripping away the natural oils that keep our skin hydrated. Dry skin is more prone to redness, and without adequate moisture, the skin barrier can become compromised, leading to an increased risk of irritation and infection.
Dr Parushinee Naidoo, an aesthetic medical doctor at Skin Solutions in Ballito, recommended that we try an iS Clinical Foaming Enzyme facial. Head therapist Maxine welcomed us to the practice and guided us through the experience, explaining that the treatment combines the deep-cleansing power of enzymes with the gentle exfoliation of a foaming cleanser. Enzymes, derived from natural sources like papaya and pineapple, break down dead skin cells without the harshness of traditional scrubs. This makes them perfect for sensitive skin types and those looking to avoid irritation.

THE FOAMING ENZYME FACIAL EXPERIENCE
- PREPARATION AND CLEANSING
Maxine started by thoroughly cleansing the skin to remove any makeup, dirt, and impurities. This ensured that the skin was prepped and ready to absorb the full benefits of the treatment. - APPLICATION OF THE ENZYME MASK
Maxine applied a specially formulated enzyme mask to the skin. This mask is designed to foam up, creating a bubbly texture that gently lifts away dead skin cells. This caused a slight tingling sensation, which is completely normal – as the enzymes get to work, the bonds between old skin cells break down. The foaming action effectively lifts away dirt, oil, and impurities, leaving skin clean and refreshed. Enzymes provide a mild exfoliation, removing dead skin cells without the need for abrasive scrubs, making it suitable for all skin types, and even those who struggle with acne. - REMOVAL AND CLEANSING
Once the mask has worked its magic, it was gently removed. Any remaining product was cleansed away, leaving our skin feeling fresh. - HYDRATION AND PROTECTION
The final step involved the application of a hydrating moisturiser to replenish the skin’s moisture levels. A broad-spectrum SPF was also applied to protect the skin from UV damage. The experience was comfortable and relaxing, with no downtime at all. We left with super-soft, hydrated skin!
