Umhlanga-based couple Tayla and Taylor Gibb tied the knot in a breath-taking destination wedding at Lake Como, Italy. But their big day wasn’t without surprises! An unexpected weather warning led to some truly unforgettable moments – and even more stunning photos.
“Our wedding certainly didn’t go off without a hitch,” laughs Tayla. “The night before, we were warned of extreme winds reaching 80km/h. On the morning of the wedding, we had to cancel the boats that were supposed to take us across the lake to our ceremony at Villa Del Balbianello.”
When they finally arrived, they were told the ceremony had to be moved from the ivy-covered arches overlooking the lake – what was meant to be a romantic setting had turned into a wind tunnel!
Despite the last-minute changes, Tayla embraced the moment, with her bridesmaids rallying around her to make the most of it. “Honestly, it became my favourite part of the day! The photos captured the magic of the unexpected. Looking back,
I wouldn’t change a thing.”
The aesthetic
• Timeless and elegant.
• A neutral colour palette that let Lake Como’s natural
beauty shine.
• Bridesmaids in ivory with all-white peony bouquets.
• Female guests in soft, neutral tones, while the men wore classic black tuxedos.
Personal highlights
• Having family and friends travel from all over the world to celebrate with them.
• Taylor’s mom officiating the ceremony. Since they handled the legalities in South Africa beforehand, they could have anyone conduct the symbolic ceremony.
• Making it more than just a wedding – friends flew in early for a three-day “STEN” (stag and hen) party in Milan before heading to Lake Como for a rehearsal dinner filled with endless pizza and pasta!
