Nick Efstathiou- CEO of Central Media Group

“Find a problem you’re passionate about solving, research your target market thoroughly, and prioritise building a strong team to complement your skill set.”

Twenty-eight years ago, on 6 February 1996, Nick Efstathiou presented his first radio show on a community station in Nelson Mandela Bay. Today, he is the CEO of Central Media Group based in Bloemfontein.

“On that very day, I fell in love with radio and media. I said to myself, I want to do this as a career and the rest is history. I have worked at Central Media Group for 23 years now, having been promoted to eleven different positions over the course of my career. I started as a producer of the breakfast show, a sports presenter, a marketing coordinator to now being the CEO of a business I truly love. My people are amazing at what they do,” expressed Nick.

Nick highlighted the CMG mantra which he has adopted in his personal life when it comes to maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

“Time poverty is a real thing. Time for work and family is not always easy but we make the time to balance this effectively. At CMG a mantra that we live out each day is ‘Family First’ – a mantra we support when there are sharks in the water and leadership is required to balance professional responsibilities and personal needs.”

His advice for aspiring entrepreneurs is that they should build a team that complements their skill set. It is also important for an entrepreneur to remember that success also requires cultivating their personal strengths. “Be prepared to adapt and learn as you go, and don’t be afraid to seek guidance from mentors but remember to balance their experience with your vision,” he said.

Nick enjoys watching Manchester United play football, reading, and riding his static bicycle to take his mind off the business, although that doesn’t help much because he is always thinking about work.

Central Media Group (CMG) is a leading media and entertainment company with a focus on reaching Central South Africa.
