A New Perspective on the Namaqua Wildflower Season

What happens when South Africa’s most beloved gardening duo step into one of the planet’s richest floral kingdoms?

From 5 to 12 September, two familiar faces in South African gardening media, Tanya and Izolda Visser, will spend time at the Namaqua Flower Beach Camp during the height of the region’s wildflower season.

Best known for their work in The Gardener, Die Tuinier, and The Gardener TV show, the Vissers will be part of a limited-time experience set against one of the world’s most biodiverse floral backdrops. Their presence at the seasonal coastal camp will offer an accessible, local lens on the flowering Namaqualand landscape, one often admired from afar but rarely explored with such guided insight.

Known for her approachable expertise, Tanya Visser has spent decades sharing gardening knowledge through magazines, books, and broadcast. Izolda Visser brings complementary experience in plant styling and botanical creativity. During their time at the camp, they’ll host informal garden chats, and lead guided wildflower walks.

“Tanya and Izolda don’t just write about flowers, they understand them, celebrate them, and help others fall in love with them,” says Lysta Stander, co-founder of Chiefs Tented Camps. “Having them at Namaqua this season is a celebration of everything we stand for: connection, conservation, and creativity.”

The Namaqua Flower Beach Camp, now in its 14th year, operates for just four weeks (22 August to 14 September 2025) as part of a seasonal concession by SANParks. Set within the Namaqua National Park, the temporary eco-camp is designed around low-impact principles, with no permanent structures and a strong emphasis on sustainability. The addition of the Vissers offers a distinctive local storytelling element, making the connection between wild ecosystems and everyday gardens.
