A chilled rosé for sipping poolside, a crisp white Chenin Blanc for pre-Christmas lunch with the girls, a Merlot to serve with the roast lamb. We’ve been shopping at Franshhoek Cellar and have a selection of brilliant wines to see us through the festive season and Summer hols.
The Franschhoek Cellar The Churchyard Cabernet Sauvignon is a deep crimson wine all concentrated currants and mulberry fruit flavours, elaborated by attractive savoury oak spice to a smooth and lingering juicy fruit finish. It’s perfect to serve these holidays with roast beef, a rare steak, or mature cheese. • Brimming with exuberant mulberry and plum flavours, Franschhoek Cellar Baker Station Shiraz is a wine with depth and interest, and is a fabulous match for spicy sausages, smoked meats, roast venison, duck confit, mature cheddar, or blue-veined cheese. • Franschhoek Cellar The Old Museum Merlot pays homage to the rich settler history preserved by the old town museum … it’s soft and juicy with attractive plum and black cherry aromas intertwined with herbal tea, liquorice and gentle oak spice. Great for easy social drinking, with or without food. Serve this with your Christmas lamb, or casual meals with friends when you’re dishing up spaghetti bolognese, pizza, or cottage pie. • Expressive tropical aromas and fruity flavours of Cape gooseberry, grapefruit and pineapple, the Franschhoek Cellar Statue de Femme Sauvignon Blanc is an easy drinking wine. We’ll be serving it when we cook prawns on the braai, with creamy mussels and with zesty chicken dishes.
Served chilled, the crisp and dry Franschhoek Cellar Club House Rose is brilliant with smoked salmon, sushi, prawns, smoked chicken and cold meats. The wine is made in a classic Provence style, according to the winemaker, with a fresh acidity. A gorgeous pink-tinged hue, with sumptuous red berries and cherries, tinged with discreet spice. • Think pineapple, peach, nectarine and honeysuckle aromas supported by a line of bright citrus and tropical fruit … the Franschhoek Cellar La Cotte Mill Chenin Blanc is zesty and fresh and is splendid served with sushi, roast chicken, creamy pasta, veal schnitzels or a fish pie. • Radiant pale gold with a youthful green glow … the Franschhoek Cellar Our Town Hall Chardonnay is all pineapple and lemon and lime fruit. We’ll be drinking this festive season when we serve dishes like chicken a la king, veal parmigiana, pasta alfredo, grilled calamari, or roast pork.
