A wine tour in Jozi

Taking a wine tour is not exactly  something you’d expect to do in Joburg North – but Tsogo Sun treated us to  one that’s given us an (even greater) appreciation of SA wines.

At four different stops we not only sipped, but also savoured some really delicious dishes by local talented chefs. You could do the little route as part of your Valentine date – or choose to linger a little longer at one of them (they’re all lovely!). First stop, the Palazzo, Montecasino – oh, what a romantic venue! We kicked off with a taste from Constantia as we sipped Klein Constantia Sauvignon Blanc paired with a tasty octopus salad at Medeo restaurant. Totally yum! Next stop, the classy Level Four at 54 on Bath for an explosion of flavour from the very first bite of maple and yuzu dumpling decorated with a gold leaf. It paired perfectly with the Newton Johnson Albariño 2018 from upper Hemel en Aarde valley.

Then it was time for a taste of Stellies at Sandton Sun’s San Deck. (The view is jaw-dropping!) The Ernie Els Cabernet Sauvignon paired with grilled rib-eye, caramelised onions and wholegrain mustard was a highlight –  we just loved how this classic red paired with a rich hearty dish. Our tour ended with a Franschhoek sipping at the stunning Luce Southern Sun in Hyde Park. Picture vanilla panna cotta, rhubarb purée, poached rhubarb, ginger and champagne sorbet paired with Terra Del Capo Sangiovese – what a treat at just the right spot to ‘wine down’. Oh, what a date these spots make! Details: tsogosun.com
