Tea in the woods

Our top spot of the month. This gorgeous Tea in the Woods venue at the always lovely Fairlawns Boutique Hotel and Spa is inspired by the themes and colours of European tea rooms, but with a South African twist.

So think Ardmore Design fabric upholstery and table linen, with touches of Jenna Clifford, and an exceptional, specially-designed wallpaper featuring a Birchwood forest which also ties in with the gorgeous gardens and rolling lawns of the hotel. With a backdrop sound of the fountain, the morning and afternoon tea menus, created by Executive Chef Gareth Jordaan and Head Pastry Chef Christopher Berg, have everything you want from a proper tea … cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches, smoked salmon and chive bagels, buttermilk scones, dark chocolate and raspberry torte.

A collaboration with Terres d’Afrique sees a collection of more than a dozen loose-teas from Morocco, Japan, Africa and South Africa. And if you prefer something a little more celebratory with your afternoon tea, you can opt for Champagne or South African sparkling wine, which has been carefully chosen to harmonise with most palates. You could make your day more exciting by adding tea cocktails especially designed by a mixologist.

We can’t think of better spot to have a bridal shower, and baby shower, or take mum for a MD treat. Morning teas cost R320 a person, afternoon teas R425, and booking is essential. Fairlawns Boutique Hotel and Spa, 1 Alma Road, Morningside, Sandton. Details: fairlawns.co.za or 011-808-7300.
