The hotel’s ballroom lit up with a warm glow from the LED candle lights that surrounded the centre stage where Protea String Quartet of four string players – two violins, a viola, and a cello, harmonised a stunning performance of both ABBA and Queen songs and throwing in a few interesting facts about the bands too. While we wanted to capture every moment, the rule of no recording during the show allowed for us to really take in this classical music experience and as the night went on, the quartet encouraged the audience to sing along and engage bringing this show to life especially when the crowd chanted Mamma Mia, here I go again. My, my, how can I resist you? softly throughout the room. While we are fans of Queen, ABBA really stole the limelight on the night especially hearing them first perform the song Dancing Queen.
Coming up is the Candlelight – The Best of Hans Zimmer promising a multi-sensory musical experience with a programme including Time from Inception, This Land from The Lion King, Zooster’s Breakout from Madagascar.
