Last year, South Africa helped raise enough to buy 500 white canes.
This year the aim is to double the impact, one R50 donation at a time. You too can help give a white cane. This year, the campaign is calling on South Africans to help raise enough to fund the distribution of at least 1000 white canes and essential orientation and mobility training.
With donations towards a cane starting at just R50, everyone can be part of someone’s journey to independence. You don’t have to walk alone, and you don’t have to give big.
A R50 donation helps bring someone closer to independence. You can also host a dress-up day, walk-a-thon, or blindfold challenge at work or school, encourage your book club, community, or running group to chip in.

Open your heart and home and become a puppy raiser for a future guide dog. Imagine playing a vital role in transforming a playful, energetic puppy into a confident, life-changing guide dog for someone who is visually impaired.
The South African Guide Dog Association for the Blind is urgently seeking passionate individuals to open their homes and hearts as puppy raisers, and you could be the perfect fit. Raising a puppy begins around eight weeks of age and lasts until about 16 months.
During this time, puppy raisers attend weekly training sessions. Puppy raisers are encouraged to include their furry friends in daily adventures, though some restrictions apply during the first 16 weeks.
At 16 months, the puppy returns to the association for formal training, but puppy raisers can still enjoy their company at home on weekends and holidays. Once training is complete, the dog will be matched with a new owner, ready to bring joy to another family.
Remember you must be 18 years and older with a valid driver’s license.
