As spring awakens new beginnings, Léchar Knezovich reminds us that our greatest transformation starts within. Her inspiring journey is a celebration of confidence, purpose and the strength to bloom exactly where life has planted you.
By every outward measure, Léchar Knezovich has achieved remarkable success. She is a businesswoman, mentor, speaker, founder, mother and the newly crowned Mrs South Africa International.
Yet, for someone who wears so many titles, she believes none of them define her. Instead, they simply give her a greater opportunity to fulfil the purpose that has quietly guided her for years – helping people discover the confidence they already possess.
For Léchar, confidence has never been about standing on a stage wearing a crown. It has been built in ordinary moments of courage, saying yes to opportunities that felt daunting, embracing change, overcoming selfdoubt and choosing growth, even when it was uncomfortable.
It is this journey of becoming that she now shares with hundreds of young people through mentoring, leadership and her own initiative, Walking in Confidence
The woman she was meant to be
Léchar often smiles when people ask where she comes from because there is no single answer.
Raised in Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg, each city shaped a different part of her identity. Durban instilled a deep love for family, the ocean and the outdoors.
Cape Town awakened her adventurous spirit through weekends spent exploring beaches and mountains.
Johannesburg became the city where dreams started taking shape. It was here that she discovered modelling and pageantry, built her career and later uncovered her passion for mentoring young people.
One of the most treasured influences in her childhood was her grandmother. She fondly remembers visiting her gran at work in quality control for Woolworths in Durban, before sharing toasted cheese sandwiches together.
Family outings to Funworld and uShaka Marine World became treasured memories Looking back, she realises those moments were never about where they were. ‘They were special because of who I was with. My gran taught me that it’s often the simplest moments, shared with the people we love, that become our greatest memories,’ she shares.
Her grandmother also introduced her to the world of pageantry and admired confident women who were unapologetically themselves. Alongside her father, who constantly reminded her that anything is possible with hard work and belief, these early influences laid the foundation for the woman she would become.
Choosing courage over comfort
Today, Léchar speaks confidently on stages and mentors young women across South Africa, but she admits there was a time when she questioned herself.
Everything changed when she stopped waiting to feel confident and started taking action instead. Whether it was moving to Dubai to work as Emirates cabin crew, travelling to almost 40 countries, studying while working full-time, launching businesses, stepping into leadership or entering pageantry, every major chapter in her life began with one uncomfortable decision.
‘Growth has never been about becoming someone different,’ she adds. ‘It’s been about uncovering more of who I already was and having the courage to step into it.
‘Confidence isn’t the starting point, it’s the destination. Every uncomfortable conversation, every opportunity you say yes to and every challenge you overcome becomes another piece of evidence that you’re capable
Confidence that lasts a lifetime
After nearly two decades in the modelling and pageant industry, Léchar has witnessed first-hand how confidence can transform lives.
Today she serves as board member of ACE Models International, director of ACE Models Rosebank, national director of Mr & Miss ACE Models International and an official Mrs South Africa mentor. Through these roles she has mentored hundreds of young people, watching shy children become confident speakers, uncertain teenagers develop into leaders and young women begin believing in themselves.
Those experiences inspired her to establish Walking in Confidence, a platform dedicated to equipping girls with practical confidence-building skills through identity, voice, presence and exposure. ‘Watching a girl speak up for the first time or volunteer for an opportunity is one of the greatest privileges of my life.’
Her passion for empowering women extends even further. She founded Perfect Fit SA, an activewear brand inspired by her maiden surname, Perfect, with the mission of helping women feel strong, confident and supported in their own bodies.
As her understanding of confidence deepened, she also established The Perfect Fit Foundation, partnering with the Breast Health Foundation and Helen Joseph Hospital to help underprivileged breast cancer survivors access reconstructive surgery.
For Léchar, helping a woman reclaim her confidence after one of life’s most difficult journeys is one of the most meaningful forms of empowerment.
Women who continue to inspire her
Although Léchar has become an inspiration to many, she continues to draw strength from remarkable women in her own life.
Her grandmother remains one of her earliest role models, remembered not only for her work ethic but also for encouraging Léchar’s love of pageantry and shared love for Beyoncé’s music.
She also credits ACE Models founder, Joani Jacobs with teaching her invaluable lessons about leadership, professionalism and building organisations with purpose. Beyond those close to her, she admires women who use their influence to lift others.
Personal growth expert, Mel Robbins is someone she greatly respects for making self-development practical and accessible. ‘I’m inspired by women who use their influence to create opportunities for others,’ she says. It is a philosophy she now strives to live herself.
The role that changed everything
Despite leading businesses and mentoring countless young people, Léchar says nothing has transformed her quite like motherhood.
‘Without a doubt, becoming a mom has taught me the most about myself.’ Her daughter shifted her perspective from constantly chasing the next goal to appreciating the beauty of everyday life.
Simple moments now carry extraordinary meaning. Those experiences have also deepened her sense of purpose. Every workshop she presents, every confidence journal she creates and every young girl she mentors contributes to building the kind of world she hopes her daughter will grow up in.
‘I want her to know that her voice matters, that she’s capable of incredible things and that confidence comes from knowing who you are, not from seeking approval from others.’
Finding peace in the simple things
Considering her busy schedule, it would be easy to imagine Léchar constantly on the move. In reality, her happiest moments are remarkably uncomplicated.
A perfect day begins with a strength session at the gym, followed by good coffee and quality time with her husband and daughter. She loves being outdoors, whether walking in nature or simply enjoying fresh air away from the demands of work.
Her commitment to wellbeing also led her to India, where she studied meditation, before completing breathwork training with internationally respected expert, Dan Brulé. Those experiences taught her the value of slowing down. Curiosity is another defining part of who she is.
She laughs that she can happily spend hours reading books, listening to podcasts or disappearing down a rabbit hole of fascinating ‘Did you know?’ facts before enthusiastically sharing them with whoever happens to be nearby.
Among the more unexpected stories she loves telling is that she once owned a pet chicken named Dorothy, who adored being tickled. It’s these small, authentic details that reveal the woman behind the public image.
A legacy measured by lives changed
Being crowned Mrs South Africa International was undoubtedly one of Léchar’s proudest moments, but for her the title represents responsibility rather than recognition.
‘I’m honoured to have represented South Africa and to use this platform to continue making a meaningful difference in the lives of girls and women.’
She hopes to expand Walking in Confidence nationally and internationally through digital resources, partnerships and educational programmes so that girls everywhere can access the tools they need to believe in themselves.
Ultimately, she wants to be remembered not for the crowns she has worn, but for the confidence she has helped build in others. ‘I hope my legacy isn’t the titles I’ve held, but the lives I’ve impacted.’
