We’re huge fans of Zandvliet Shiraz … this wine estate was one of the first in the country to bottle the noble cultivar. But Shiraz is not the only variety that thrives on the farm, which is just 130km away from the southernmost point of Africa.

The one we know and love is Zandvliet Shiraz 2017 -with aromas of plums, blackcurrants and pepper with hints of mixed spice, you’ll taste hints of dark chocolate. It sells for around R120 a bottle. Now we’re trying … Zandvliet Chardonnay 2019 a lovely wine with aromas of lime, nectarine, passion fruit and peach with hints of butterscotch. Around R120 a bottle.
For rosé lovers, the Zandvliet Shiraz Rosé 2020 has a distinct bouquet of rose petals, melon, strawberries and raspberries coulis. It’s refreshingly vibrant, with flavours of red fruit while the finish has a delightful floral undertone. The wine sells for around R85/bottle.
Expect intense flavours of muscat, orange peel and rose petals with a hint of spice in the Zandvliet Muscat 2018. This low alcohol (7.17%) wine costs around R85 a bottle.
The Kalkveld Shiraz 2016 is a delicately layered wine … all plums, prunes and violets with a touch of spice, with a long, velvet finish. About R240 a bottle.
Too, too delish … with delicate flavours of wood spice, plums, cigar box and chocolate, the Hill of Enon Shiraz 2018 is a complete treat. A special occasion wine, it costs around R445.
