Shades of summery SEVILLE and ROSE

Masks and facials and pretty new collections on the beauty scene this October

TWIST and GLOW
Since we’re in an Isle of Capri mood (we can dream!) we’re obviously obsessed with this new, limited edition summer collection from Clarins. The Clarins Bronzing Compact (R485) is inspired by Mediterranean style … it’s all warm shades of summer with sun kissed skin. The trio of matte bronzing shades can be used together, or individually, on the face and body to give a warm and natural sun kissed glow. The Clarins Twist To Glow – this one in Coral Happy – is a 2-in-1 powder which illuminates the eyes and cheekbones in a twist of colour. With a grill that transforms the solid texture into an ultra-fine powder that is easy to blend, this shimmer powder captures the light and enhances radiance. Look out, too, for the Twist To Glow in Pink and Mandarin, R420 each. Also lets-do-the-twist with Clarins Lip Twist Duo – a 2-in-1 product that transforms the lips in just two steps. On one side, a coloured felt give the lips a matte finish. On the other, a top-coat balm perfects the colour with a sparkling shine. Doubly as pretty. Lovely shades to suit every mood. R320. And not new, but we can’t get through summer without Clarins Water Lip Stain – customisable and long-wearing colour, for a barely-there feel. Lips look natural, seemingly tattooed with colour like an ink. Get one in Rose Water or Orange Water, R315 each.

HELLO SUMMER. HELLO RADIANCE!

Here are two brand-new-on-the-beauty-shelves products that are soon going to be top of the must-use list. For those of you who’re keen welcome the new season in with a glowing, radiant skin … SVR Vitamin C Antioxidant Foam Mask. This micro-peeling mask is a wonderful boost for skin radiance. With 25 per cent optimised vitamin C (a powerful ingredient that protects against aging and illuminates the skin), combined with retexturizing, moisturising and plumping ingredients, the mask exfoliates, smooths and illuminates the skin’s complexion, and reduces signs of aging. We fancy the aerosol format, too. R750. Also look out for SVR Microgommage Lift – which promises the pleasure of having skin like new again! This exfoliating mask, with vitamin A, 0.1 per cent pure retinol, volcanic sand and musk rose oil, targets the accumulation of dead cells and signs of ageing such as uneven skin tone, imperfections, enlarged pores and wrinkles. Use it regularly and results should include clearer, more radiant skin, unblocked pores, reduced unevenness, and wrinkle reduction. R475.

FROM MASK-RELATED SKIN IRRITATIONS TO NAPPY RASH …
Along with your sanitiser spray, keep these two Eau Thermale Avéne essentials in your bag. We’re already fans of the Thermal Spring Water, which is excellent for sensitive, intolerant and allergic skin. It soothes, softens, and restores skin’s natural balance, and promotes skin healing. It’s used to combat facial redness, to calm skin irritation due to sunburn, razer burn or after a facial or surgery, to calm and soothe nappy rash, or simply to cool yourself down while travelling or playing sport. Now we’ve discovered the new Eau Thermale Avéne Cicalfate+ restorative and protective cream. Use after the spring water for immediately soothing. And it’s great for everything from mask-related skin irritations, superficial cuts and burns, localized dryness, after treatments laser and chemical peel. It’s safe for everyone, from babe to adult, and can be used on body, face and lips. You’ll find both on eau-thermale-avene.co.za, the spring water ranges from R85 for a small handbag spray to R229 for a family-friendly size; Cicalfate costs R209.

BEETS. CARROTS. BARLEY. TAKE YOUR BEAUTY CUE FROM NATURE

We’re fanatical about wearing our masks (and hope you are too). But what we’re not fans of are the breakouts they cause, particularly for those who’re already suffering from oily, problematic skin. The Placecol Cleansing Chlorophyll Facial is rich in chlorophyll derived from young Barley plants, which helps to detoxify the skin and decrease surface shine, while also reducing congestion and inflammation. Combined with High Frequency Treatment, this facial destroys the bacteria responsible for breakouts and combats congestion. With powerful anti-oxidants to increase the skin’s immunity and help reduce free radical damage, the result is visibly refreshed, clearer skin. If you just feel your skin is a little tired (aren’t we all?), there’s a Oxygenating Vitamin A Facial – highly effective for revitalising and boosting tired skin. Naturally rich in Vitamin A (hello carrots), it tightens and firms the skin, stimulating micro-circulation which increases oxygen and nutrients to the cells. This facial is rich in powerful anti-oxidants to help protect the skin from harmful free radical damage, a major cause of ageing. Then there’s the Betanin Hydration Facial … an intensely cooling and hydrating facial which contains Betanin, a potent anti-oxidant that protects cells from free radical damage and gives beetroot its deep red colour. Rich in Vitamin C to boost immunity and stimulate cell function, plus generous quantities of essential skin health minerals, such as iron and folate, and with beetroot’s deeply detoxifying properties, this facial leaves the skin feeling refreshed, renewed and energised. These facials cost from R475 to R525. Details: For your closest Placecol salon, visit placecol.com
