It’s been a most unusual year. With restrictions and lockdowns and bans and curfews, running a business – any business – hasn’t been easy. But despite this, many North Coast businesses have held on strong and there are still so many choices out there. Our editor has her finger on the pulse of the neighbourhood … so here are some of her favourites to help you along.

A carefully curated interior combined with the masterful marriage of Mediterranean and contemporary South African cuisine – positioned at one of the hottest addresses in town – there’s nothing not to love about our newest Umhlanga venue, Dante. From an island-style verandah and open, airy restaurant to the elegant champagne bar (you’ll find our editor there), and show-stopping rooftop bar with a 180-degree ocean view … we love everything about it. Open daily for brunch, lunch and dinner as well as special events.

While she may not be a golfer (yet!), our editor still loves spending time at the beautiful Mount Edgecombe Country Club. With two stunning golf courses as a backdrop, this venue is perfect for golf days, functions (she has attended a good few here) and conferences. The function rooms are classy and upmarket and the banqueting team is professional and super-efficient. The cuisine (very importantly) is always mouth-watering and the service top class.

Having recently been taken under new ownership, Burnedale Bistro, on Burnedale farm, is one of our editor’s favourite go-to North Coast destinations. They cater for small functions, kiddies parties, small weddings and baby showers … and their in-house bakes, breakfasts and lunches are to-die-for! This is the perfect spot for busy parents … with a kids play area, farm animals and loads of shops to browse. Open 8am to 4pm, 7 days a week.
