From the rugby field to the property game…

As a professional sportsman, deciding what to do after retiring from the playing field is important. A well-known North Coast property agency is making that decision a little easier for our Sharks players by helping them lay solid foundations for life after rugby.

It might not seem like a likely move, but the transition from the rugby field to the property game makes a lot of sense. Having insight in the property industry can be beneficial to the players both from a career and investment perspective.

Cameron James Real Estate, founded by North Coast property expert Peter Cameron and former Sharks and Springbok rugby star Butch James, recently partnered with Sharks rugby to provide scholarships and property education to the players.
The partnership will also extend to the Sharks Academy, with the ultimate vision being the formation of a Property Academy where perspective Sharks Academy students would be able to choose a property course as part of the academic offering.

“We are excited to be partnering with the Sharks and it has been a dream of both of ours for years,” says Peter. “Butch wanting to give back to the union that gave him so much is at the heart of the partnership. Through our scholarship, in conjunction with the Prop Academy, we hope to unlock the potential of the players that have joined our team and create a successful transformation for life after rugby and a passive income while they are still playing. This is just the beginning of a mutually beneficial partnership with lots of exciting opportunities that will come through it.”
Having retired from rugby, former Sharks captain Tera Mtembu now works for Cameron James Real Estate

Cameron James is a young, new age company with many years’ of experience in the South African property industry behind it. They have a residential sales office that services the whole North Coast and also partner with developers to conceptualise, market and sell their development.

Sharks CEO, Dr Eduard Coetzee says they are really excited to formalize their partnership with Cameron James. “We have a holistic approach to our player development and associations such as this give our players the opportunity to learn about the property industry which will assist them in making informed future decisions. We look forward to a successful and mutually-beneficial partnership.”
