The epitome of easy and beautiful living, this home in Zini River Estate is a true sanctuary.
Zini River Estate, flanked on three sides by the Umlalazi River, natural bush and lagoon, is located on the northern side of the town of Mtunzini. Bird life is prolific in the area, and the natural flora is lush and green. It comes as no surprise then that this home was designed to make the most of its setting. Natural light floods the interior, highlighting the elegant finishes and contemporary decor that complement each well-thought-out detail. Every inch of the home has been crafted with a passion for beauty and functionality.
Caryn Overton, interior designer and owner of Dandelion Designs, says that the homeowners wanted a modern, clean look. “They wanted it to be simple and elegant, with contrasting colours on walls and accents,” she says. “We kept the style of a contemporary farm house by using lots of natural woods and textures.”
Because of exposed rafters, lighting in the great room was a challenge. The owners wanted to have specific task lighting over each area, as well as ambient lighting for downtime. “Finding ways to hang and conceal this lighting was a balance,” explains Caryn. “A lot of thought went into finding the perfect balance between function and aesthetic.”
When it came to selecting colour palettes, materials and furnishings for the home, Caryn tried to keep it simple with textures and tones that the homeowner loved. “Luckily the client already had beautiful furniture made for the home, which we designed around to bring it all together,” she says.
For Caryn, working on this gorgeous home was an absolute pleasure. “The process of development, from concept to the end product, was extremely fun and rewarding! We worked very closely with our client who enjoyed the process just as much as we did!
