Extraordinary photography. Wildlife. Raising funds for endangered species. Triple tick. Remembering Tigers is the ninth book in the Remembering Wildlife series, a photography book fundraiser to protect endangered wild animals, that has donated more than R26 million to date. This hardcover coffee table book is a collection of 88 jaw-droppingly striking images donated by some of the world’s top wildlife photographers – Art Wolfe, Jonathan & Angela Scott, Greg du Toit and Sergey Gorshkov. The aim of the book is to raise awareness of the plight facing tigers – the largest of the big cats, with only around 5500 left in the wild – and to raise money to protect them, with all profits from book sales going to conservation. For the curious … mezcal – the more interesting cousin to tequila. The Lost Explorer Mezcal Espadín 8 is sweet and herbaceous, with hints of red apple, ripe fruits and a mild smoky finish. It’s best served neat and room temperature in a traditional veladora – which opens slightly at the top … this wide mouth allows the aromas to be enjoyed more evenly. For the truly curious, it’s suggested you dot a small amount of the mezcal onto the inside of your wrist and rub in … as the alcohol evaporates it leaves you with the beautiful aroma of the mezcal to appreciate. It’s also perfect for cocktails … try The Earthy Paloma. Rub a lime wedge around the rim of a highball glass, and dip into a mixture of salt and, if you have, Tajin chilli pepper spice. Pour 45ml mezcal and 10ml lime juice into the glass, then fill with ice. Top with 60ml grapefruit juice, stir gently to combine, and garnish with a grapefruit wedge. Sit in the sunshine and enjoy.
