Soft light, sheer fabrics, and a quiet kind of confidence… bridal boudoir is having a moment, and it’s easy to see why.

Once considered a niche add-on, these intimate shoots are becoming a meaningful part of the modern wedding journey, offering brides a chance to celebrate themselves in a deeply personal way.

In this local styled shoot, featuring delicate textures, flowing layers and understated elegance, the look was brought to life by photographer Jade Shelton, with makeup and hair by Camilla Kerr, and jewellery and lingerie by Jeanne & Co, modelled by Carolyn Broom. Together, the team captured the soft, feminine essence that defines bridal boudoir today.

What is a bridal boudoir shoot?
At its core, a bridal boudoir, usually done in the lead-up to your wedding. Think beautiful lingerie, soft makeup, natural movement and a setting that feels calm and private.
While some brides gift the images to their partner on the wedding day, many are choosing to do it purely for themselves – a way to honour their body, their story and this once-in-a-lifetime season.

Why brides are loving it
There’s a quiet shift happening in the bridal space, away from rigid expectations and towards authenticity. Boudoir fits perfectly into that narrative.
It’s sensual, but still soft. And perhaps most importantly, it allows you to step out of the “planning” mindset and into something more personal and reflective.

How to prepare for your shoot

CHOOSE PIECES THAT FEEL LIKE YOU
Whether it’s structured lace, something sheer and floaty, or even an oversized shirt or robe, comfort is key. The most beautiful images come when you feel like yourself.

KEEP HAIR AND MAKEUP SOFT
Think glowing skin, brushed-out waves and a natural palette. The goal is to enhance, not transform.

TRUST YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER
A good boudoir photographer will guide you gently, from where to place your hands to how to move. You don’t need to know how to pose.

FOCUS ON THE FEELING, NOT THE CAMERA
The magic often happens in between – when you’re adjusting a sleeve, looking out a window, or simply breathing. Don’t overthink it.

CREATE A CALM SPACE
Whether it’s music, a robe you love, or just taking a few quiet moments before you start, ease into the experience. It should feel relaxed, not rushed.
