After overcoming childhood cancer, Kwanele Shozi is building a future defined not by adversity, but by determination.
Diagnosed with cancer at the age of three, Kwanele faced a life-changing challenge that ultimately cost her one of her eyes. But rather than allowing her circumstances to define her, she chose to focus on what was possible. Today, she’s a legal secretary at Johnston & Partners in Umhlanga.
Three years ago, that determination met opportunity when Johnston & Partners sponsored her to complete a one-year legal administration course. The programme equipped her with the skills to begin her career and opened the door to her first role at the law firm as an administrative assistant.
From scanning documents and filing to learning the day-to-day operations of a busy legal practice, Kwanele embraced every opportunity to learn. Her commitment to continuous growth soon paid off, and today she proudly serves as a legal secretary.
Her journey continues to evolve. Recognising her dedication and potential, Johnston & Partners has once again invested in her future by sponsoring further studies, enabling her to expand her knowledge and continue progressing in her career.
Reflecting on her journey, Kwanele says the support she has received has been life changing.
“I’m a cancer survivor, and I lost my eye when I was just a child. But that didn’t stop me from dreaming big.”
For Johnston & Partners, investing in people is about more than professional development –it’s about recognising potential and creating opportunities for individuals to thrive.
