There is one bubbly that should be gracing your drinks trolley if you want to make a splash … Krone Kaaimansgat Blanc de Blancs 2016.
Apart from the fact that it is a fresh and lively Chardonnay, it’s been awarded a double gold with a score of 93 at the Gilbert & Gaillard International Challenge 2021! Pretty impressive don’t you think!
The Gilbert & Gaillard International Challenge tastes and awards more than 10 000 wines per year. Blind tastings are done quarterly by a French tasting panel, chaired by Philippe Gaillard, Francois Gilbert and Sylvain Patard. So … to be awarded double gold is a huge achievement.
The Kaaimansgat Blanc de Blancs 2016 was inspired by the grower Champagne movement in France and is a terroir-driven Blanc de Blancs made in a natural style in small batches. Sculpted by the vintage, it expresses the distinctive character of the high altitude Kaaimansgat vineyard.
‘Yellow straw. Sour dough, biscotti and a hint of smoky toast. Palate is fresh, lively with a fresh apple and white pear note. Lively and youthful with a slight nutty note on the finish. Complex and rich with a lingering acidity on the aftertaste’ – Gilbert & Gaillard.
Krone Kaaimansgat Blanc de Blancs 2016 really pairs well with grilled whole trout or pork cheeks with caramelised apples.
Packaged in a gorgeous jet-black bottle with a matching gift box, buy it online or at selected liquor retailers and grocers for around R560.
