We’re really loving International Merlot Day … a designated day to celebrate one of the world’s best loved red wines
Every November 7, the world celebrates International Merlot Day. There’s so much to love about Merlot, with its seductive oh-so-smooth mouthfeel and generous juicy dark and red fruits layered with herbal notes and spices, with undertones of vanilla and mocha, often accompanied by hints of violets, cedarwood and tobacco leaves. Merlot is also a flexible food-friendly wine and ages excellently.
One of the wine’s we’ll be celebrating with is the Journey’s End Vineyard Series V2 Merlot 2016, from Journey’s End, the picturesque boutique estate situated on the slopes of the famous Schapenberg Hills above Sir Lowry’s Pass Village in the Helderberg basin.
The colour of this wine is vibrant ruby, clear and bright … and it’s all loads of luscious blackcurrants and raspberries and velvety tannins, with the French oak well balanced to allow the fruit to shine. Only 25 barrels were produced, and you’ll find it for around R180 at good wine merchants as well as online from https://shop.journeysend.co.za/
