There is nothing like travelling in summer, whether you’re on your way to the beach, or just getting away from the city, a summer break-away is often a much-needed one.
Iconic Life’s Renee Dee experienced several summer road trips in her life, and she broke down and wrote what she learnt in On the Road Again | Summer Travel Tips for Great Trips, offering up her best advice for summer trips.
Some of her favourite summer travel tips are:
- Be a local. Avoid doing things on holiday that you could do at home. Embrace local dining and truly experience the place.
- Pack light. Depending on your destination, you might end up carrying your bag around. Packing less makes for quicker packing and unpacking. Stick to a colour scheme to easily mix and match your clothes.
- Delegate responsibilities. Have someone manage things at home and work while you’re away.
- Limit devices. If you need to be reachable, pick one communication channel. “I’ll check texts, so message me there if you need me.”
- Don’t over-schedule. Create a to-do and to-don’t list. Don’t rush to make it to the spa. Save the massages for home and leave your holiday schedule open to fully enjoy the moment. The same goes for dining.
- Post on social media once you’re home. Simple.
- Use a luggage tracker. It’s a smart idea to track your bag in case the airline can’t find it.
- Keep Zip-Lock bags handy. They’re versatile – from storing wet clothes to holding ice for an injured companion.
- Pack healthy snacks. They’re good for both your body and your budget.
- Stay hydrated. Drinking water is essential. Buy plenty when you arrive, and aim to finish it before you leave.
- Enjoy yourself! You’re on holiday.
