Summer body ready!

It is never too late to create a summer body right in summer! Fitness fanatic and Zumba instructor, Adalaine van der Merwe from AD Fitness studio, gives exciting tips on how to keep fit and healthy during the festive season.

Although many people expect quick results from swift exercises, true progress takes time and consistency. “Exercise must be paired with healthy eating and lifestyle habits. Start today with regular workouts and a balanced nutritional plan, and by Christmas, you’ll start seeing the rewards!” Adalaine mentioned.

Here are a few go-to tips to staying in shape this festive:

  1. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Adalaine mentioned that not only does drinking water nourish and protect your skin, it also gives you energy to continue your workout.
  2. Prioritise food safety. “ Be mindful of what you eat. Portion control matters and you don’t need to overindulge. Remember, good food never goes out of style!” Adalaine said.
  3. Set goals that align with your workout routine. The fitness instructor added that for building endurance, you need to prioritise cardio before weights. To increase muscle strength, though, start with weights before cardio. If your aim is overall fitness, either can come first – choose what works best for you.
  4. Consider using quality meal replacement shakes and incorporating protein-rich snacks between meals.
  5. Avoid starving yourself and limit excessive caffeine consumption. “It’s not about following a strict diet but building a foundation of healthy, tasty choices together,” Adalaine added.

To keep you motivated, encourage fit and healthy lifestyle for the entire family. “Children learn by example. When they see you exercising, they’re more likely to adopt those habits themselves. Encourage your kids to participate in sports at school and let them join you for gym sessions or family walks, this is a great starting point to a healthy destination,” she concluded.
