The modern Gentleman’s Double Cab: Introducing the Peugeot Landtrek Double Cab 4Action

Many people are surprised when they spot a Peugeot bakkie in Bloemfontein, but the French marque shares a rich history with South Africa’s bakkie landscape. From the Peugeot 202 and 404 to the iconic 504, a vehicle that famously won the African Rally Championship in 1984, Peugeot’s utility vehicles earned a reputation for toughness and reliability across the continent.

Peugeot’s bakkie heritage in South Africa stretches back several decades, with many models becoming trusted workhorses on farms, construction sites, and gravel roads alike. After a lengthy absence, Peugeot officially re-entered the South African bakkie segment in 2021 with the introduction of the Landtrek Double Cab.

In today’s world, the modern gentleman expects more from his vehicle. It’s no longer just about toughness or towing figures. It’s about versatility, comfort, and presence. The Peugeot Landtrek 4Action enters the double-cab segment with exactly that mindset.

As the flagship model in the Landtrek line-up, the 4Action introduces a more refined take on the modern double cab.

The first thing you notice is the large lion emblem positioned proudly within the grille, Peugeot’s iconic badge making a bold statement on the road. The 4Action features full LED headlights along with chrome detailing spread across the exterior, adding to its commanding presence. Riding on 18-inch alloy wheels, the Landtrek strikes a balance between rugged aggression and modern French refinement.

Inside, you are met by a 10-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. Dual zone climate control is operated through Peugeot’s signature “piano key” switches, a familiar design element also seen in models like the 208. Steering wheel controls allow easy access to key functions while a 360-degree camera makes manoeuvring in tighter parking areas less stressful.

Leather-appointed seats add to the premium feel, while the driver’s and front passenger’s seats can be electronically adjusted. Space in both the front and rear feels generous, with USB ports available for passengers in both rows. Even when tackling rougher terrain, the cabin manages to maintain a sense of comfort and refinement.

The Landtrek is not only about refinement, as it also delivers the capability expected from a double cab in this segment. Under the bonnet, you will find a 1.9 litre turbo diesel engine producing 110kW and 350Nm of torque. Power is delivered through a six-speed automatic transmission with Sport and Eco driving modes.

The Landtrek 4Action offers a maximum payload capacity of 1,085kg, which positions it competitively within the double cab market. Towing capability is rated at 3,000kg, ensuring caravan owners and those with active lifestyles have the flexibility they need from a modern bakkie.

Off-road enthusiasts will be pleased to know the 4Action’s four-wheel drive system is more than capable when the terrain becomes challenging. It is equipped with a rotary selector that allows the driver to switch between 2H for rear-wheel drive, 4H for four-wheel drive, and 4L for low range, ensuring the right level of traction is always available. A rear differential lock further enhances capability when additional grip is needed.

Complementing this is 235mm of ground clearance, which adds confidence when venturing on the road less travelled. The 360-degree camera system proves useful in demanding conditions, providing extra visibility when navigating uneven terrain and tight obstacles, effectively giving the driver additional eyes around the vehicle.

While the 4Action stands as the flagship in the Landtrek range, Peugeot also offers other derivatives, including entry-level and mid-spec models such as Active, Professional, and Allure. These are aimed at buyers seeking a more work-focused or value-driven approach, while still benefiting from a robust foundation and core capability.

It is the 4Action, however, that brings together the most complete expression of the Landtrek nameplate, combining capability, comfort, and refinement in one package.

In a segment that increasingly blends workhorse capability with lifestyle appeal, the Peugeot Landtrek 4Action is a well-rounded offering. It brings together comfort, technology, and off-road ability to suit the demands of modern driving. For the modern gentleman, it is a versatile companion built to handle both business and beyond.
