Shimmy, Samba and spotlight on dance!

Shimmying and boogying back on to stage, Shall We Dance returns for its 31st year, bringing together dance schools and studios from Durban and surrounds, to entertain audiences through five jam-packed colourful shows. Included in the line ups are professional Latin couple, Darren Hammond (who is no stranger to the Durban stage) and Marina Steshenko. This year the show will include everything from Ballroom and Latin to Indian, Modern and Ballet with a few special numbers by MC, Lisa Bobbert, and her team from the International School of Performing Arts. Shall We Dance will be staged in the Opera Theatre at The Playhouse Company from Friday, September 12 to Sunday, September 14. Under the uplifting theme ‘In Full Bloom’, the Verulam Child and Family Welfare Society’s Spring Ball promises a glamorous and heartfelt celebration featuring a welcome drink on arrival, curated gin and wine tastings, a gourmet three-course dinner, live music, a charity auction, spot prizes, and powerful stories from the community. The event is at 5.30pm on Saturday, September 6 at the Natal Sharks Board, Umhlanga. All proceeds go toward the society’s essential programmes supporting vulnerable children and families.

Now in its fourth year, the prestigious L’Atelier Paris Concours d’Elegance – a world-class celebration of classic cars – returns to Umhlanga inviting entries from collectors across South Africa. Organiser John Aritho says this year’s event will feature a standout Johannesburg-to-Durban route curated by Stuart Grant, editor of Classic Car Africa and chief judge for the event. The scenic journey through historic towns and Midlands meanders, promises a true throwback to the golden age of motoring. Held at Chris Saunders Park on Sunday, September 7, the Concours will showcase elegant vintage vehicles and haute couture fashion. Join the South African Bone Marrow Registry (SABMR) for their annual Golf Day Fundraiser in support of its Patient Assistance Programme that helps cover bone marrow transplant costs for patients in urgent need. Enjoy a day of golf for a great cause with a fourball format at R3750 per team, including drinks on arrival, lunch, sponsored holes, dinner, an auction and a prize-giving ceremony. Auction items include sports memorabilia, holiday packages, vouchers and more. An online auction will also run a week before the event to expand support. SABMR is a non-profit dedicated to finding bone marrow donors for patients who don’t have family matches. With odds of finding a match as low as one in 100,000, fundraising is crucial for giving patients a fighting chance. The Golf Day takes place on Friday, September 26 at Mount Edgecombe Country Club.
